A flawless treatment

STAR BYTES - Butch Francisco -

“Aestheticians? Aren’t they just facialists?” The tone had a hint of denigration to it. This comment from a friend (?) who gets to enjoy Flawless services only through my gift certificates that are part of the perks of this Flawless endorser.

Of course, I had to come to the defense of the Flawless aestheticians. They are, after all, among the most decent people I’ve met in my now very long life. They are dear to me.

My pompous friend (?) backtracked a bit and conceded that, yes, the Flawless aestheticians are the sweetest. And most efficient.

The truth is, there is nothing offensive about being called a facialist. Call them whatever you want, but they can never be accused of being unprofessional (some are college graduates actually).

I also have to state here that those girls who proudly wear their pink and brown uniforms don’t merely do facials. They can be trusted with machines, but only after an intensive training. And since they are the people who see your imperfection the longest and at close range (you spend one-on-one time with them) they can also recommend what treatments may be best for you.

No, they don’t play doctors. They will only suggest and turn you over for proper consultation with the Flawless doctors (my favorites are Drs. Evelyn San Luis, Margaux Cu and Mary Joy Tarun). A thorough discussion between the medical practitioners and the patients will always follow.

As per my experience, I’ve learned to listen to the aestheticians’ advice because it is from them where I hear about new procedures since I’m lazy to read brochures or anything posted in the clinics. Sometimes, it is the branch managers who tell me — like Edith Bernabe and Aileen Alviz. Or team leader Luchi Begnotea.

The first Flawless aesthetician I became close to was Gigi Diamante. She was already there when Flawless began operations on Dec. 8, 2001. But she quickly rose from the ranks. In a very short time, she was absorbed by the Flawless head office when she proved to be a gem.

Alas, she was pirated by a high-end company that sells cosmetics. The offer was apparently tempting. On her terms. Gigi clearly became polished to perfection starting Day 1 she worked for Flawless. Flawless lady boss Rubby Sy’s standards had always been very exacting and this reflects in the excellent services of the skin clinic staff anywhere in its numerous branches.

I often visit the Greenhills and Megamall branches because these are the most accessible from my area. In these branches, I am assisted by Cathy, Nemar, Joy, Brige, Carla, Emmie, Mylene and Amelita, who is called Nanay because she has already been around since Flawless’ early years.

But my personal favorite is Janeth Aquino who in time became more popular among colleagues and clients as Aneth. She is not only a super worker, she is thoughtful, too: She sends me delicacies from Samar when relatives give her those treats.

I actually don’t look at Aneth as a worker, but as a friend, which most of them had become to me. I want to pay tribute to these wonderful Flawless aestheticians since it is Labor Day tomorrow. Yes, they will still be working even if it is a Sunday and a holiday. How can you not admire their dedication to work?

Aestheticians, facialists, etc. Call them by whatever title. But the members of the Flawless work force are shining examples that there is dignity in labor.
