Vivian Sarabia: An Easter story
MANILA, Philippines - Funfare texted Dr. Vivian Sarabia, Eyewear Stylist to the Stars, a request for her to tell her own story of faith in time for the Holy Week. She e-mailed the following response from South Africa where she’s vacationing with friends:
In June of 2003, I was diagnosed with third-stage colon cancer. It was a humbling awakening for me. Prior to this, I was a workaholic, pursuing material wealth and worldly happiness. In the midst of the struggle and hard work, it was easy for me to lose sight of the fact that material wealth could only serve me in this lifetime. I was in the business of “looking good, going nowhere.” The things I struggled and worked to achieve enslaved me. I did not have inner peace.
When I was told that I had cancer, I told myself, “You can either prepare to suffer or prepare to heal.” I never questioned why. I came to a realization that God gave me this experience because He wanted me to change. God stripped everything from me in order for me to build a fortress within myself. It was difficult to forgive myself for certain behaviors I have engaged in or certain actions I have taken. I willed to grow, learn and heal myself. I released the fear that controlled my mind. I found peace when I learned to forgive myself.
As I begin to heal my inner self, I altered my immune system. I prayed for enlightenment, to let go, accept what is and be God’s miracle.
Today, I am living my life in order of priority with God’s help, to learn to focus on one thing at a time. I am devoted to living my life as a ministry to inspire others. Investing in my spiritual growth. Putting my full confidence in my prayers. Devoted to living a spirit-filled, peace-filled life and leaving a legacy that is more valuable than money — inner peace, joy, love and a life of bliss!
What blessings! I am now physically, emotionally and spiritually healed. Truly, I am so loved by God. Thank you, God. I am so grateful!
