Angel Aquino split with Lui Villaruz: 'No third party involved'
MANILA, Philippines - Without any hesitation, Angel Aquino admitted that her four-year romance with Lui Villaruz, sadly, had fizzled out. But she was quick to add there was no third party involved, contrary to what has been circulating these past days, following a blind item in Funfare.
“First of all, I’m not eight years older than Lui but only five years his senior. The only truth about that is that Lui and I have broken up,” Angel said during a presscon for Studio 23’s Us Girls’ fifth anniversary presentation which will start on March 3. “Right now, we’re no longer in touch but everything else (in the blind item) was not true.”
Angel reasoned out that if the cause of a break up was another person, she would agree. But if some people were saying that she and Lui separated because she got involved with another person, then that’s completely false.
“I or even Lui was not involved or had a relationship with another person when we separated or even when we’re still together, so there’s no third party.”
Their differences have often been the cause of their fights. Angel said they were two different people. She tended to be quiet while Lui was outspoken.
“And because we’re different, a lot of our arguments would start from that. Then lately, I became friends with a businessman and he (Lui) didn’t want to believe that there was nothing going on between me and the guy. It is pure friendship. The guy is just comfortable being friends even with my family and comfortable with us but anything beyond and bigger than that wala talaga.
“In all honesty, even my children know that I don’t have a (romantic) relationship with that person. I would always talk to them and tell them na kasi nga yun ang fear ko that it would look bad, that people might mistake it for something else. And true enough, that’s what happened.”
Asked how she coped with the situation and being single again, Angel replied, “It’s not so hard naman. Actually, I’ve been wanting to be single for a long time even before Lui came into my life but he was persistent then and too cute to resist so I said to myself, ‘Why not?’ It lasted for four years and it was, for me, very tiring. So right now, it’s something that I welcome in my life because I really just want to be with my kids and people will know na wala talaga, they won’t see me with anyone.”
But Angel hopes not to grow old alone. The break-up just made her realize that getting into a relationship is “not just about jumping on the first boat that comes along.”
“Before, when I felt happy with the guy parang, ‘Sige tayo na.’ Now, I have to be more careful in choosing a person I’m going to be with because he will not only spend his life with me but also with my children. “
Does the heartbreaking situation affect her work as host of Us Girls?
“The more you sulk the more you feel the pain. Besides I don’t entertain the thought when I work. I do things professionally. “
