Concert review: Janet Jackson –Number Ones World Tour

MANILA, Philippines –  She promised that her concert would be up close and personal with her fans.

Janet Jackson definitely lived up to that promise during her Number Ones concert presented by Wilbros Live Friday night at the PICC Plenary Hall. Having a large band play in an intimate venue gave the feeling that fans were really up close with Janet.

Before the show began, Janet premiered the music video of Go Deep, her song which she dedicated to Manila. Then she wowed and surprised everybody by her unexpected entrance in the middle of an unsuspecting audience. She kicked off things by performing a string of her upbeat hits which included the hit single Feed Back. Wearing a tight and sexy leather outfit, she didn’t seem to have any problem performing every dance step she made famous in her music video.

The monitor in the middle of the stage showed video clips of Janet’s acting performance in various TV shows and movies in the US, which kept the crowd entertained and anticipating, while the singer was changing wardrobes. After the clips, Janet came out in a gown and did a medley of her love songs which included Let’s Wait A While and Again.

A Janet Jackson concert wouldn’t be complete if there wasn’t any segment on her late brother, The King of Pop, Michael Jackson. Michael sang his part while being flashed in the monitor during Janet’s performance of Scream. There was also a heartwarming feeling and Janet almost broke down in tears when she sang Together Again. During the song, the monitor flashed slide shows with pictures of her and Michael while they were growing up.

Although the concert lasted barely two hours, fans were all screaming, jamming, cheering and singing with Janet from the beginning up to the end of the show. This made Janet smile in appreciation as fans showed that they knew most of her songs.

There was not much of special effects, nor any pyrotechnics, but it made the fans connect a little bit more to Janet. The performance was about Janet and her fans. It was all about being up close and personal.
