Zany Zabala: Stardom after 'contravida' roles

In the ’50s and early ’60s, Zeny Zabala was the contravida in many Sampaguita movies. She was the other woman in Susan Roces, Amalia Fuentes, Barbara Perez, Gloria Romero and Lolita Rodriguez starers.

But in the late ’60s, Zeny achieved stardom in films produced by NGI, among them Kalinga, sharing stellar billing with Vic Vargas and Sofia Moran.

Much later, Zeny appeared in mother roles in films produced and topbilled by Dolphy, her Sampaguita contemporary. – RKC
