MANILA, Philippines - GMA Network paid tribute to the greatest pound-for-pound fighter in the world, Manny Pacquiao, through a series of special events dubbed as
Pacmania Weekend last Nov. 20 and 21.
A fitting honor to the 8th Wonder of the World, the Kapuso Network welcomed Pacquiao after his successful bout with Mexican pugist Antonio Margarito. Pacquiao has now become the first Filipino and Asian boxer to win eight world titles in eigth different weight divisions.
As the Filipino boxing icon arrived Saturday morning, GMA covered Pacquiao’s homecoming with up-to-the-minute flash reports featuring exclusive interviews and inside scoops on his condition and plans after his win in Dallas.
The Sabado Pacman Power fever continued in the afternoon with Pacquiao’s live guesting in Startalk TX being interviewed by Ricky Lo, Lolit Solis, Butch Francisco and Joey de Leon. Pacquiao was feted with a grand homecoming concert titled King of the Ring Show Me Da Manny Special at the SM Mall of Asia. Kapuso stars like Rochelle Pangilinan, Gladys Guevarra, Lovi Poe, Enzo Pineda and Sarah Lahbati performed.
The celebration continued on Sunday as Kapuso Film Festival aired Pacquiao’s self-starred and produced movie, Anak ng Kumander.
The Pacman Day continued as Party Pilipinas threw a grand hero’s welcome and homecoming party for Pacquiao with Fearless as theme.
After, his home network hosted a Kapuso Thanksgiving lunch at the GMA compound with chairman, president and CEO lawyer Felipe Gozon and EVP and COO Jimmy Duavit. Pacquiao received a copy of GMA’s coffeetable book titled Kapuso: The GMA Story.
Pacman also graced Showbiz Central and had one-on-one with hosts Pia Guanio, Raymond Gutierrez, John Lapus and Rufa Mae Quinto.
