Dindo Fernando: From matinee idol to drama king

- Danny Dolor -

In the ’60s, Dindo Fernando was a matinee idol, belonging to Sampaguita’s Stars ’66. But even then, Dindo showed the making of a great actor. One of his more serious Sampaguita movie was 4 ang Anak ni David (played by Eddie Garcia), with Luis Gonzales, Eddie Gutierrez and Bert Leroy Jr. (also of Stars ’66), as the three other sons.

When he turned freelancer, Dindo starred in such memorable dramatic films as Ikaw at ang Gabi (Urian Best Actor), Langis at Tubig, Mortal, Init sa Magdamag, Baby Tsina, Gaano Kadalas ang Minsan, Muling Buksan ang Puso. He was billed drama king.

Dindo (Jose Surban Chua offcam) studied at Letran, FEU, and UE, where he finished his MBA.
