Is she an endangered species?
Laughter is the best medicine. This is what Pokwang will prove tomorrow, Oct. 15 to 17 at the Aliw Theater at her first major concert titled Endangered Species along with comedian-friends Pooh and Chokoleit. Pokwang is ready to share her pill, err brand of comedy to give you a laugh-out-loud entertainment.
“For those who are blue and gloomy, you will bury your sadness and cares,” promises Pokwang when asked about Endangered Species.
Her weapon to put everyone in stitches is Pokwang’s “endangered” beauty.
“We are blessed to have this kind of looks and talent to entertain,” she shares. “My comedy is based on everyday experiences (and ordinary people). That’s why many can laugh at it and relate to it.”
“(Comedians like me) have gone through a lot in life,” Pokwang adds. “They experience pain. And they deal with it by just simply laughing at it.”
Even if they are in the business of laughter, comedians are really softies.
Pokwang cries when asked about Pilipinas Win na Win’s change of main hosts. The Hitmakers replaced Kris Aquino as host a week ago. Pokwang will miss Kris’ friendship and energy. Pokwang blended well with The Hitmakers and sticks to her duty — to entertain people and make them happy.
How did Endangered Species come to be?
According to Pokwang, the concept started with her shows abroad. She would introduce herself as Pokwang, the endangered specie. People couldn’t help but burst into laughter. Endangered Species was originally titled Miss Philippines’ Animal Edition. Its objective is to showcase exotic beauties and talents only a few were called and chosen to possess.
What makes this different from the Pokwang-Pooh outing Poohkwang?
“It is full of laughter,” answers Pokwang. “There will be new, crazy skits. Piolo (Pascual) and I will tease each other. I will have showdowns with Regine Velasquez, Zsa Zsa Padilla and Kuh Ledesma.”
Also guesting are Elizabeth Ramsey, Sam Milby, John Lloyd Cruz, Mahal, Melai Cantiveros and Mommy Dionesia.
Pokwang is in tip-top shape to tickle your funny bones, hit the high notes and gyrate sexy moves. She will also show her stamina to perform for three consecutive nights.
Let’s find out how Pokwang goes through her life off stage and off cam.
(Mondays to Saturdays)
6 a.m. — I wake up for a 10 a.m. call time. This is for Pilipinas Win na Win. I take a shower and fix myself. Then, I opt for coffee instead of having something heavy.
7 a.m. — I’m off to work. When I reach the studio, I usually look for something to fill my stomach. I prefer bread. But if I’m hungry, I go for rice (with viand). And If I have worked too much the entire day and I am exhausted, I settle for rice. I love vegetables.
I get the script and read through it. My punchlines are situational.
After 2:30 p.m. — If there’s no work to do (like presscons and rehearsals), I go home straight and rest. (Note: Recharging is a must for Pokwang because she has to be on her toes Mondays to Saturdays.)
I also go on-line and twit my followers if I’m not busy.
I wash my face and take a bath. I think of a delicious food to cook.
8 p.m. — I hit the bed.
Sundays — My daughter and I go to the grocery. Then, we cook together. That’s how we bond. But sometimes it depends on my daughter. It’s either we do the grocery first, then watch DVDs or vice versa.
I also attend Mass. — JERRY DONATO
