Krista: Goodbye, showbiz!

FUNFARE - Ricky Lo -

After her one-week honeymoon at an undisclosed place with her brand-new husband Jefferson “Niño” Lim, Krista Ranillo will go back to school to take up Law at a school she has yet to choose. Krista was a dean’s lister at Ateneo where she graduated with an AB Interdisciplinary Studies degree.

“It’s goodbye showbiz for Krista for the meantime,” said somebody close to the newly-weds. “It will take her three years to finish Law.”

Krista and Niño were childhood sweethearts who drifted apart and met again after several years. They were married last Sunday, Aug. 8, at a very private Jewish-interfaith wedding at the Hotel Maya in Long Beach, California, with only close friends in attendance. The event was so secret that even Krista’s maternal grandmother, Gloria Sevilla, didn’t know about it. “Are they really getting married?” Gloria asked me when I saw her last Friday night at the special Mass for Charlie Davao at the Philippine General Hospital where he died barely 48 hours later. (Charlie’s remains lie at The Heritage in Taguig City. Interment will be on Friday, Aug. 13, after the 8 a.m. Mass.)

It was Krista’s parents, Mat Ranillo III and Lynda Tupaz, who gave Krista away.

The Aug. 8 affair was only ceremonial because Krista and Niño were actually married in civil rites last July 14 in Norwalk, California. It was a highly-confidential affair with only one witness present.

In April next year, the couple will happily welcome their little bundle of joy.

Krista couldn’t have married a better guy. Born in the Philippines to Chinese parents, Niño is the second among four children. The Lims, who migrated to the US when Niño was eight years old, own the Island Pacific Supermarket which has nine outlets in California. A friend told me that Niño is a summa cum laude Accounting graduate from the University of Southern California. He helps manage the family business.

“He’s very kind, mabait siyang tao, at guapo, lapitin ng chicks,” said the couple’s friend. “Krista made a good choice. She found the real Mr. Right.”

Away from showbiz, Krista and Niño can start a new life together hopefully free from the intrigues that drove Krista to the States. She has survived the tsismis linking her to now-Sarangani Congressman Manny Pacquiao.

“I’m happy with my life now,” Krista confirmed in an exclusive interview with Funfare last June. “It’s stress-free.”

Flo Rida, T-Pain, Sean Kingston, Kelly Rowland coming to Manila

BREAKING NEWS: Four of today’s hottest and biggest-selling artists are performing together in Supafest 2010, a landmark R&B, pop and dance concert set for Sept. 18, Saturday, at the Mall of Asia Concert Grounds. They are Flo Rida, T-Pain, Sean Kingston and Kelly Rowland.

Flo Rida hit the ground running with his blockbuster debut, Mail on Sunday. The rapper’s single, Right Round, shattered the all-time one-week digital sales single record. His latest single, Club Can’t Handle Me (featuring David Guetta), is the lead single of the Step Up 3D soundtrack album and is currently one of the hottest singles in the Billboard charts.

Kingston’s song Beautiful Girls made history as one of the fastest ascents on the charts ever. His other Top 10 hits include Me Love, Take You There, There’s Nothin and Fire Burning. Kingston has sold more than six million digital sales, more than 4.5 million ringtones, and has toured with Gwen Stefani and Chris Brown. His latest single, Eenie Meenie, features his close friend and teen superstar Justin Bieber. They are currently touring together in the US until the first week of September.

Rowland rose to fame as one of the founding members of the Grammy winning girl group, Destiny’s Child. Together with Beyonce and Michelle, they were behind the No. 1 hits like Say My Name, Survivor, Independent Woman and Bootylicious. Her total record sales, when combined with the group, have surpassed 60 million. During the hiatus of the group, Rowland collaborated with famous rapper Nelly on the worldwide number-one hit, Dilemma. In 2009, she scored another number-one hit with her collaboration with French DJ David Guetta on When Love Takes Over. With this success, they have again collaborated for Rowland’s latest single, Commander, which is part of Rowland’s upcoming album. On the concert, she will feature her chart-topping hits, including the ones of Destiny’s Child.
