Patricia hosts show for GMA Pinoy TV

FUNFARE - Ricky Lo -

She may have been out of the showbiz spotlight after she moved to San Diego, California and got married, but sultry actress and singer Patricia Javier never stopped performing at all. Though she enjoys being a housewife to her chiropractor-hubby Dr. Robert “Rob” Walcher III and mom to their now three-year-old son Robert “D’4th” Walcher IV, Patricia just couldn’t say no to invitations for her to take center stage.

I saw for myself how restless Patricia was; she hates being idle. Three years ago when my nephew Raymond de Asis Lo (this paper’s L.A.-based Hollywood correspondent) visited Patricia and Rob at their San Diego home (which was threatened by a wildfire two years ago), she told us that she and Rob were planning to do a reality-TV featuring themselves. What a pity that it wasn’t pushed through. Since then, Patricia has done many other things, including joining a beauty contest for married women in which she finished second runner-up.

Luckily for Patricia, Rob has always been supportive.

“Siguro nga totoo ‘yung saying na once an entertainer, always an entertainer, ” she told Funfare in a recent long-distance interview. “But I always make sure hindi ko napapabayaan ang family ko even if I accept a gig or a project.”

Interestingly, after being crowned Mrs. Asia USA California in 2009 and placing second runner-up in the succeeding Mrs. Asia USA tilt (where she also bagged the Miss Congeniality and People’s Choice awards), Patricia got more and more involved with projects tied with charity or community service.

Just last June 26, she headlined a fund-raising dinner show to benefit the Paradise Valley International Medical Mission. The annual medical and dental mission is headed to the provinces of Cavite, Bulacan, Pangasinan, and Patricia’s home town in Antipolo this October.

Patricia will be taking part in the mission for the first time to see for herself how volunteer doctors and nurses carry out their challenging task of providing free medical care to thousands of Filipinos in need.

“This is a worthy community service at maraming Filipino and magbe-benefit kaya it really deserves our all-out support, ” she said. “I want to see how it is done and how we can help further.”

Her successful benefit show called Genesis: A New Beginning (Genesis is Patricia’s real name) was held at the popular Jasmine Seafood Restaurant in San Diego. She was supported by some local artists including the funny Ronny B, a finalist in America’s Got Talent.

Meanwhile, Patricia is seen every week all over the US via GMA Pinoy TV’s new magazine show called Now in LA, aired every Saturday afternoon and co-hosted by Rogel Aragon, Jason Dallas and immigration lawyer Jemela Nettles.

“Basically we interview and feature successful Filipinos in America and show what’s going on in Hollywood,” said Patricia, who has left the newly-formed group Asian Dolls. “It’s a light show but informative, inspiring and entertaining. I’m enjoying it and I’m learning a lot.”

In between her busy schedule, Patricia managed to squeeze time to take formal training to become a professional aesthetician (skin care specialist) at the famous Marinello Schools of Beauty. She recently passed the state board exam with flying colors and is now thinking of putting up her own clinic in San Diego in the near future.

“The good thing here is I would be able to share with others my beauty secrets and rituals, how to stay young and fit, and at the same time all the things that I’ve learned from my training at Marinello, ” she points out. “This is my new passion and I hope to succeed in my new venture.”

What Diet is up to

As usual, Diether “Diet” Ocampo is updating Funfare readers on what he has been up to lately through a letter. Here’s the latest:

Dear Ricky,

Kumusta? I hope you’re doing fine. I would like to share with you and your readers the conclusive success of the 1st Diether Ocampo Golf Tournament held in Tagaytay Midlands Course. The collective effort of our team was made possible with the support of our generous and kind friends who are proponents of the K.I.D.S. Foundation educational programs in time for the 2010 school year.

The catalyst for this event was Willy Ocier of Belle Corporation to whom I had broached the idea during a gathering. He immediately offered the venue and gave the go-signal to the team composed of my vital group from K.I.D.S. Foundation, Anthony Suntay, Peach Mascarinas and Rima Ostwani. Together with Jay Ortega’s staff, they carried out Oakley’s theme for the Charity Golf Tournament. Quite a few have contributed, including Ramesh Dargani, Yvonne Yuchengco, Felix Ang, Richmond Lim, Benedict Go, Sam Liuson and Sunny Ku.

The objective of the event was to raise funds for the education of the less-privileged children supported by K.I.D.S. Foundation in various areas of the country. Some 100 participants including friends from the business, sports, my showbiz colleagues and golf enthusiasts responded positively and have shared their time. They also pledged to support and provide education to the less-fortunate children and give them a better chance of realizing their dreams.

Celebrities who participated were Monsour del Rosario, Epy Quizon, Jai Reyes, Coach Chot Reyes, brother Billy, assistant coach Nash Racela and youngest participant Asha Nocum answered the 7:30 a.m. shotgun start.

The weather was great with a little thunderstorm which traditionally we give a nod to as a sign of blessing from the Lord. Everyone enjoyed and stayed till late in the afternoon.

Big thanks to all who have supported us in making a difference in some KIDS’ life.

We hope you can join us on our next Charity Golf Tournament.

Cheers,

DIETHER OCAMPO
