Lola is Best Film in Rome Asian filmfest

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Brillante “Dante” Mendoza’s film Lola brought honor to the country again when it won Best Film at the recent Rome Asian Film Festival in Italy.

The jury unanimously gave the award to Lola “for the extraordinary narrative grace which has conjugated an almost documentary glance about the dignity of the poorer classes’ life, to a subtle ability to create characters made of a huge humanity.”

The judges, composed of actor Giorgio Colangeli, director Serafino Murri and Claudia Bedogni also cited Mendoza’s “incredible directorial skill in the use of space, time and light, that are perfectly inherent to a story where lightness and drama are combined together, to return us a profound reflection on the meaning of the bittersweet life.”

Lola, which depicts the personal drama of two grandmothers, topbills Anita Linda and Rustica Carpio.
