Steven's showbiz life

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - “It’s more interesting than my life before,” Steven Silva describes his showbiz life after becoming StarStruck V’s Ultimate Male Survivor. “I was just a culinary student. Every day was like doing the same things over and over again. Now, there’s something different each day.”

His oriental looks make Steven a shoo-in for Tagalized Koreanovelas although he has no Korean blood. He is part-Chinese, part-Filipino and half-Portuguese.

“I’m attending workshops, doing TV guestings and pictorials and performing in Party Pilipinas,” says Steven. “We have mall shows. We’ve been busy. I’m also (gracing) Pinoy TV (events). I’ll be having my second show in the States on May 29 in San Diego.”

For Steven fans out there, don’t feel bad if the two other male StarStruck V winners Rocco Nacino and Enzo Pineda are visible these days. Rocco shows his acting chops on GMA 7’s Gumapang Ka Sa Lusak starring Jennylyn Mercado and Dennis Trillo. Enzo, on the other hand, is cast in Diva and Bubble Gang.

“Being here right now is so much of a blessing,” shares Steven. “I have to be patient and keep training. I know that GMA is preparing something for all of us.”

Part of that plan is the mini-series titled Love Bug. Steven shares he, Sarah Lahbati, Enzo and Diva Montelaba will start filming soon. It will be aired in June.

Does he find Party Pilipinas exciting?

“We’ve been to Cebu and Dagupan. We’ve been touring around the Philippines. It’s a great opportunity to see different places. (Recently,) we had a tour in Davao. I was able to go back (to my hometown here) and see my family. I stayed only for a day in the hotel and went home straight. I extended my stay for two days.”

Party Pilipinas allows Steven to discover the beauty of his mother’s country and to understand the Filipino culture through its people. It helps him to better understand the Pinoy in him.

In StarStruck V, Steven was seen dancing, singing, hosting and acting. But it’s in singing where he is most comfortable. So releasing Steven’s debut album sounds like a good idea for the GMA Artist Center talent.

“I’ve been told that we’re starting to record an album soon,” reports Steven, a fan of Michael Jackson and Brian McKnight. “We haven’t picked yet the record label (that I will sign up with). It will start soon. I’m excited for that. I want to do love songs, ballads, R&B and upbeat songs.”

Is he getting the right breaks for a career in show business?

“Yeah as time goes on,” replies Steven. “ Right now, Party Pilipinas is like a training (ground) for me. I want to be a singer. I have to sing, dance and host. Every week, I get more training in my singing and dancing.”
