A watering hole on the Net

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - In recent years, the youth has increasingly opted to hang out in a different universe: Cyberspace.

And why not? Hanging out online means you don’t have to dress up and spend on travel to meet, while still being able to communicate freely with one another and enjoy private time together whether inside a chat room or through a portal.

It’s not as if few people have access to a computer or laptop with Internet connection — actually, it’s the other way around nowadays.

No wonder the number of social networking sites and their account owners have gone up dramatically. Not only can you keep abreast with people in real time when online, but also make new friends in the security of anonymity, if you so wish.

Recently, PLDT myDSL’s groundbreaking innovation Watchpad partnered with Channel V to give netizens a new hangout place where they can “converge” for the freshest content and most exciting entertainment.

One of the first offerings of the synergy was the recent Musicfest 2010 which featured the back-to-back show of American Idol champ Kris Allen, Boyce Avenue and Jabbawockeez in Manila and Cebu.

Unlike TV coverage that only showed about 15 seconds of vignettes of goings-on in both events, Channel V’s take was longer, more encompassing which were then streamed on PLDT myDSL Watchpad.

People like this kind of coverage better because how can you appreciate — let alone, grasp — something akin to a blur? A PLDT myDSL Watchpad-Channel V coverage is more detailed and with inputs from the interviews done by members of the PLDT myDSL Watchpad crew namely Rhian Ramos, Victor Aliwalas and Isabel Oli.

Go to PLDT myDSL Wacthpad and find out what transpired during the pre-concert press conference with the Jabbawockeez, the energetic vibe of the crowd at the McKinley Hill Open Grounds and SM Cebu Northwing crowd where the Musicfest 2010 was held, and how delighted the fans were in meeting Kris, Jabbawockeez and Boyce Avenue.

Log on to your Watchpad account for exclusive content, viewed free from your DSL-powered PC.

Meanwhile, PLDT myDSL Watchpad began covering the various events being mounted by top schools nationwide. These are not PLDT myDSL Watchpad events, but the schools’ (meaning the students will see their talents, their hosts, their whatever when they visit Watchpad).

The best thing about it is that the students can review their events (or keep up with other schools’ events from as far away as another region in the RP) as many times as they want since these are already stored in Watchpad.

So far, about 20 campuses have been lined up up to March. Among them are the Watchpad Lecture Series at Cebu Institute of Technology today; FEU Musikfest at Far Eastern University on Feb. 20; the Foundation Week event at San Pedro College Davao and Street Fuzion: Dance Contest at UP Diliman on March 6.
