John Ford Coley is Pinoy at heart

Danee Samonte - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - John Ford Coley has the penchant for amazing his fans in the Philippines by talking in Tagalog.  In a concert last year, he cracked a joke on stage and the moment he noticed a lady at the front row laughing with gusto he confronted her and uttered, “Bakit ka tumatawa?” The poor lady didn’t know what hit her.

For the past few visits, Coley has endeavored to learn vernacular words and phrases that he could use in conversations.  He has also adapted to the Pinoy palate for street food like lugaw, goto, sisig and his latest favorite, turon saging. Last year, he took with him on the plane two dozen turon  and finished it halfway through his flight to Los Angeles.

His greatest discovery and pleasure though that he misses in his hometown in Nashville are foot massages. Whenever in the Philippines, he religiously gets his daily fix of foot massage whether at the hotel or while shopping in a mall.

This year, to get deeper into the Pinoy groove, he is recording his latest album Timeless Love Songs which is set for world release later this year right here in the Philippines with a full complement of Pinoy musicians and singers which will include Faith Cuneta, Ciara Sotto, Lenny de Jesus, Carlo Gaa, etc.

This year’s Asian tour is aptly called Timeless Love and will highlight all the immortal love songs of England Dan & John Ford Coley like Just Tell Me You Love Me, Sad to Belong, I’d Really Love to See You Tonight, Love is the Answer, We’ll Never Have to Say Goodbye Again, Soldier in the Rain, Nights are Forever, Where Do I Go From Here, Gone Too Far, What Can I Do With a Broken Heart and more plus classics like Longer, Leader of the Band, Make It With You, Sometimes When We Touch, etc.

As in all past shows, Coley will have photo ops and meet and greet. As in most Steve O’Neal promoted concerts, both dinner shows at Hyatt Hotel & Casino and Heritage Hotel Ballrooms include a full course dinner with drink for the very friendly Valentine price of P3,500 (plus tax).

Tickets for the Hyatt show on Feb. 13 with special guest Faith are available at the Hyatt Hotel & Casino Concierge, Pagcor Hyatt, Italiannis, Ayala Malls, Robinsons Malls, National bookstores and Ticketworld outlets. For details, call 891-9999.
