Mark is making the right moves

Bot Glorioso - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - He’s a bad boy only on the dance floor. This, Mark Herras admits as he laughs off an issue linking him to a singer-dancer who claims to be pregnant and points at him as the culprit.

“I don’t know about the matter. I really have nothing to admit,” Mark says when asked about the rumor running the gossip mill at the launch of his latest dance album titled Mark Herras: The Greatest Moves under Universal Records.

Mark may have been showing signs of being a good dad these days but that only happens whenever he slips into the Michael role he’s been playing for the past few months on GMA 7’s Ikaw Sana opposite Jennylyn Mercado. He knows his priorities and raising a family seems to be the very least of them. “Hanggang role-playing lang muna,” he quips.

However, the false claim about his love life hasn’t stopped the 22-year-old actor-dancer from turning on his charm especially on the dance floor. Mark continues to set a trend among dance enthusiasts the way he did when he released his first two albums — Dance Hits and Dance Party — that both turned platinum hits.

This time, the aim to show some maturity has led him to come up with infectious dance moves that complement some of the upbeat tracks included in the album like Culos, I Know You Want Me, Now You See It, Bubblegum, The Anthem and Enjoy.

“This (new dance album) is three to four notches higher than the first two because we want to show I’m no longer the young Mark they first saw five years ago,” he offers. “It is totally different from (the dance steps in) Average Joe and Pump It Rock It.”

Thus, Mark and choreographer Miggy Eugenio combined their talents to create feet-stomping moves that would totally “make everyone groove especially the kids who are always on the look out for fresh and fast moves.”

Asked what got him interested in dancing, Mark says it all started when he was still in grade school, “joining every program there is.” Since then, listening to upbeat tunes and watching music videos made Mark more eager to develop his dancing skills.

Hilig ko na talaga sumayaw. That must be the reason why I can make a certain style even without thinking, kusa siyang lumalabas,” he states.

His influences Billy Crawford, Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown and Usher have also fuelled his passion to make every dance step enjoyable and worthy of easy recall.

What satisfaction does he get from dancing?

“It boosts my energy even on a bad hair day; I just dance instead of getting mad. Dancing also makes my day complete like now, when I get to dance. Masaya na `ko,” he replies.

All you readers who want to feel light can take the cue from Mark.
