Tryst in L.A.

FUNFARE UPDATE - Ricky Lo -

Pinoys in L.A. are whispering about a popular sexy star who flew in from Manila a few days ago presumably to spend a well-deserved vacation with the man she said she’s going to marry in the near future.

“They are not discreet at all,” said a Pinoy who lives near the place where the lovers are staying. “They are sometimes spotted together in public places. Baka akala nila walang makakakilala sa kanila. Maski mag-disguise, kilala pa rin sila.”

Another sexy star is in Las Vegas to give Manny Pacquiao, ehem, “moral support” during his fight with Miguel Cotto on Sunday, Nov. 15 (Manila Time). She, too, isn’t discreet. No wonder Manny’s wife Jinkee is on “red alert.”

Ex-Miss Japan loves RP

My friend Tim Evans, who’s connected with the US Immigration, brought me on a quick “tour” of Neiman Marcus, the huge elite perfume store in Beverly which is a favorite of stars, both from Hollywood and the Philippines.

Tim introduced me to Bettyna Oliva who said that she represented Japan in a Miss Orient contest using the name Betty Orii. In her calling card, Betty is listed as sales associate (cosmetics/fragrance) of the store.

She said she moonlighted as a commercial model for a few years in the Philippines and befriended a few actors, among them the late Miguel Rodriguez and Edu Manzano in whose late-night show Betty said she guested.

Told that Edu might run for senator in the 2010 elections, Betty said, “Say good luck to him for me.”

She stayed briefly in Hawaii before moving to L.A. where she has been staying for 17 years with her family.

“I hope to visit the Philippines someday,” she said.

A Neeman Marcus suki, Tim bought a bottle of Joe Malone, his favorite scent.

Amazing, indeed!

Filipino artists doing shows in the States never fail to amaze.

The group of Sitti, Nina, Aiza Seguerra and Richard Poon arrived in L.A. in a PAL flight at 6:30 p.m. for a show somewhere in California at 9 p.m. It would take them approximately an hour to clear immigration and customs, and another hour to get to the venue.

And yet, they would be able to perform maybe not on time (thanks to the front acts) but puede na — with jetlag and all and no rehearsal at all.

Amazing how they do it, isn’t it?
