Our favorite dynamic duos

Joy Jonette Chuyaco - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - They come in pairs, they work hand-in-hand, they complement each other, they look good together and we can’t imagine any of them going solo — they are the dynamic duos of the movie world. Throughout the years, a lot of lead characters that came in pairs have successfully entertained viewers. Usually, action and comedy movies cast duos. Luckily, if viewers like the team-up, a sequel is on the way. Here are some of the most popular, most- liked dynamic duos:

Batman and Robin (of Batman and Robin). They are the original “Dynamic Duo,” Batman and Robin is truly a perfect team to protect Gotham City from the villains who are terrorizing it. This duo has been very popular ever since it started. From time to time, producers have tried adding another sidekick but the people just seem to enjoy “The Batman and Robin” team — exclusively.

Lee and Carter (of Rush Hour). After their first assignment in Rush Hour 1, Lee and Carter just can’t seem to be separated from each other. Now, they work as a team in almost every mission. Best known for having argument while in the brink of fighting with bad guys, Lee and Carter never fail to naturally give laughter to their viewers — the reason why their team up is well-loved.

Laurel and Hardy (various short films). This classic comedian pair started in the 1920s. They brought laughter through silent short films and stage plays. After so many years, people would still mention them when talking about comedies and comedians. Truly, their pair-up have made a mark in the movie industry.

Riggs and Murtaugh (of Lethal Weapon). Although they have their differences, they are still best friends and always finish their missions completely and successfully. Viewers enjoy watching them in action and listening to their sarcastic yet funny lines. One of the most memorable scenes was when they jumped together from a bridge, since the other one wants to commit suicide.

K and J (of Men in Black). They wear black suits, black shades, and ride a black car; K and J are absolutely the coolest guys who protect the earth from aliens who have bad intentions. One time, K tried to get out of the team to have a normal life, but when he was needed for an assignment, although he resisted at first, K willingly got back in the agency with his partner J. Together, they accomplished their missions completely and smoothly, with the touch of aliens — as always.

Bonnie and Clyde (of Bonnie and Clyde). The Bonnie and Clyde film is based on the true-to-life partnership of real criminals of the same name. They are popular for robbing banks in Central United States during the years of “The Great Depression.” Their partnership has influenced many movies of the same genre.

Fred and Barney (of The Flintstones). Who are the best friends and neighbors who live in Bedrock town? Although they live in the Stone Age, Fred and Barney have entertained viewers of different generations. One can’t imagine Flintstones without either Fred or Barney. Even though the title is Fred’s surname, this doesn’t mean Barney is a weaker character. Both of them need to be together to complete the show or movie.

Abbott and Costello (various TV series and movies). The team-up of comedians Abbott and Costello didn’t only invade movie houses but radio and television. Some cartoons even imitated them. They brought laughter in the ’40s up to the ’50s.

Starsky and Hutch (TV series and movies of the same title). Originally a ’70s popular TV series, Starsky and Hutch was made into a movie on 2004. Their pair-up may seem wrong because of their differences, but it brought a lot of laughter and excitement to their viewers — thus, it’s perfect!

Buzz and Woody (of Toy Story). In the world of toys, Buzz and Woody are known to be best friends; they are heroes to the toy population. Of course, like any ordinary relationship, they have arguments and fights, but they always end up helping each other and admitting they are indeed best friends. Even though Buzz and Woody have tried going solo (on TV), viewers would still prefer them to be together.
