New Myx VJ enjoys being wacky & witty

MANILA, Philippines - What does it take to beat singer Miki Hahn, Century Tuna girl Lana Roi and hundreds of hopefuls in the search for the new female VJ for MYX music channel?

Janine Ramirez, 24, answers without skipping a beat: “A ‘crazy,’ wacky personality.”

Asked to define herself in the final leg of the search, Janine showed up in a black flowing cape, and, sporting the Sadako look, clasped her outstretched hands and put them over her pretty head.

That unusual gesture proved to be the perfect foil to Janine’s horror look on Judgment Day of the search, which named Nel Gomez as her male counterpart. You can just imagine the audience gasping in surprise after Janine pulled off her one-of-a-kind act.

That bold gesture of making fun of herself proved Janine is humble enough to risk being the object of laughter, good-natured or not. It also proved that she’s not afraid to leave her comfort zone.

Nothing prepared the Ateneo Management graduate for that stroke of luck though.

 “I was ready to lose so I won’t get disappointed when I don’t win,” she answered when asked to react on her victory that night.

All Janine knew was she applied what her Marketing professor told her about packaging oneself. And she made it.

With the prize tucked under her belt, Janine sees a whole new world of opportunity opening before her. The former marketing specialist with “a million and one facial expressions” debuts (along with Nel) as MYX VJ on Saturday, Oct. 31.

She will appear in MYX Daily Top Ten with VJ Chino every Tuesday; Pop Myx, Pinoy Myx, Club Myx and Myx International Top 20.

“Since I tape the shows twice or thrice a week, I can do extra work during my free days,” she relates.

That extra work could be a TV commercial (among her TVCs is one for Max’s Restaurant with Piolo Pascual) or print ad. Newscasting is also welcome.

Wherever her career takes her though, Janine will always remain a VJ at heart.

“I want to be a VJ more than an actress,” she admits.

Myx — by signing her up to a six-month contract (renewable thereafter) — will make sure of that.
