Loren not backing out

MANILA, Philippines - A few days ago, Sen. Loren Legarda (photo) was quoted by a radio reporter as saying that she was “withdrawing” from the presidential race in 2010, citing the killer Typhoon Ondoy as an “eye-opener.” Loren has been reported to be deadset on running for President under the Nationalist People’s Coalition of Danding Cojuangco. Also ‘interested’ in running for the same position under the same party is Sen. Chiz Escudero.

Contacted by Funfare for comment, Loren said that she was misquoted.

‘What I said was that in a time like this when Typhoon Ondoy has just devastated the country, we should set aside politics and concentrate on helping the victims. This is not the time to discuss politics, you know, who’s withdrawing or who’s running with whom.’

She added, ‘Chiz and I will make an important announcement soon.’
