How motherhood has changed Angelika

MANILA, Philippines - After giving birth to a boy six months ago, Angelika dela Cruz makes a comeback in the remake of Kaya Kong Abutin Ang Langit on GMA 7’s Sinenovela. In the afternoon soap, Angelika reprises the role of Gina Alajar as Nancy, sister of Clarissa played by Iza Calzado.

“I’m happy to be back although nakakapanibago din naman.”

In the story, Angelika’s role is a kind and responsible daughter. Is it not hard for her to adjust to it since she did contravida roles in her last two soaps, Una Kang Naging Akin and Lalola?

“I still have to adjust a little,” admits the young mom. “I don’t know why they offered me this role pero I’m sure para maiba naman siguro. It’s okay naman for me because anything different from the previous thing that you did is a challenge and I like it,” Angelika adds.

And how was it working with the cast?

“We really bond. I really enjoy being with the cast at nagkukulitan talaga kami. Bonding is really important on the set,” says Angelika.

Since Gina is Angelika’s godmother in real life, she doesn’t feel pressured playing the role.

 “I don’t like to think of it as a pressure because hindi ko siya (Gina) kayang pantayan. Also we have different styles naman in acting. And she’s my ninang.”

Angelika, on the other hand, loves being a mom.

“I learned many things about motherhood. When you’re a mom, you don’t prioritize yourself anymore. Now I don’t think much of myself unlike before na inuuna ko talaga ang sarili ko. You also want to get home early for the baby and it’s even harder when you leave home,” she explains.

What does Angelika miss most in her career?

“I want to go back to singing. Nire-request ko nga ’yun,” she replies.

Angelika must have found her happiness already that she just ignores the issue between her and Sunshine Dizon (playing the lead role in Tinik sa Dibdib) about getting the major role since Angelika is in a supporting cast only.

“I have nothing against her doing it (lead role). I’m happy for Shine. We have different paths in life and I chose a different one. At hindi ko ’to ipagpapalit to any lead roles. Being a mom gives me a different kind of happiness,” says Angelika.
