Madz sings at CCP tonight
MANILA, Philippines - What started in 1963 as a group of students, alumni and faculty from the University of the Philippines-Diliman by National Artist for Music Andrea Veneracion turned out to be one of the most successful choirs in the world, The Philippine Madrigal Singers, also known as Madz.
Madz first earned critical acclaim during its performance in the First Choruses of the World Festival at the Lincoln Center in New York in 1969. The concert welcomed the group to the international choral community, eventually paving the way to joining the most distinguished international choral competitions and winning all the top prizes.
The group also emerged as the winner in the European Grand Prix in Choral Singing in Arezzo, Italy. Madz recently brought honor to the country again with Unesco designating them as Artist for Peace. Unesco Artists for Peace are world-famous personalities who use their influence, charisma and prestige to help promote the organization’s message and programs. Previous assignees to this honor in music are Celine Dion and Shirley Bassey.
