Cheesy lines from local movies

STAR BYTES - Butch Francisco -

One of my favorite screen love teams in the past few years is that of John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo’s. I believe that their tandem succeeds because of the following reasons: 1.) They make very good, carefully studied projects; 2.) They are given great directors (Laurenti Dyogi and Cathy Garcia-Molina); 3.) They are very good actors who do not waste the excellent materials assigned to them; and 4.) Obviously, they have chemistry.

Today on television, I find their Greenwich commercial to be so amusing and entertaining. It’s the one that goes “Yihee sobrang cheesy!”

If you check the dictionary, the word cheesy has a negative connotation. But words take on different meanings through the years and now it can also mean “like cheese” or with plenty of cheese — as in cheese on pizza, which I love.

Among moviegoers today, cheesy could mean cheesy lines and there’s plenty of that in local films — and not necessarily just in John Lloyd and Bea movies. Here are just a few that I gathered:

“I’ve never really believed in forever, but I think I found forever in you.” — Rico Yan in Got to Believe.

“Siguro magaling ka sa puzzle kasi kasisimula pa lang ng araw ko, nabuo mo na agad.” — Sarah Geronimo, You Changed My Life.

“Oh, yes, kaibigan mo ako. Kaibigan mo LANG ako... and I’m so stupid to make the biggest mistake of falling in love with my best friend.” — Jolina Magdangal, Labs Kita, Okay Ka Lang?

“Taas na nga mga kamay ko sa iyo eh, mahal na mahal kita. Maging sino ka man!” — Robin Padilla, Maging Sino Ka Man.

Popoy: “She had me at my worst, you had me at my best, but binale-wala mo lang lahat ‘yun.”

Basha: “Popoy, ganun ba talaga ang tingin mo? I just made a choice?”

Popoy:“And you chose to break my heart.” — John Lloyd and Bea, One More Chance.

Miggy: “Ano?”

Laida: “Tayo.” — John Lloyd and Sarah, You Changed My Life.

“Mahal mo ba ako dahil kailangan mo ako — o kailangan mo ako kaya mahal mo ako?” — Claudine Barretto, Milan.

“Mahal na mahal kita kahit ang sakit-sakit na.” — John Lloyd Cruz, One More Chance.

“Love? Hindi pa ako nadadapuan ng sakit na ‘yun.” — Ruffa Gutierrez, Desperadas.

Basha: “Kailangan ko ‘to. Kailangan mo ‘to”

Popoy: “Pero ikaw ang kailangan ko.” — Bea and John Lloyd, One More Chance.

“You made me believe... you made me believe we had a chance.” — Sharon Cuneta, Minsan Minahal Kita.

“Falling in love is saying goodbye to your finest dreams and hello to your worst nightmare.” — Rico, Got to Believe.

“Kahit kailan hindi ko naisip na nakakapagod kang mahalin. Ngayon lang.” — Sarah, A Very Special Love.

“’Yung ibang babae, pang-display lang ‘yan. Pero ikaw ’yung babaeng pangmatagalan.” — Marvin Agustin, Labs Kita, Okay Ka Lang?

“I don’t like the way you dress. I don’t like your make-up. But I love you.” Rico, Dahil Mahal na Mahal Kita.

“Kung magkakasala ka, ready ka bang magkasala with me?” — Judy Ann Santos, Don’t Give Up on Us.

“You never say sorry for loving someone. You never say sorry for loving me.” — Claudine, Got 2 Believe.

“I love you three times a day!” — Jimmy Santos, I Love You 3 X a Day.
