Syato single Tibo now playing at No. 2 in FM stations

MANILA, Philippines – Tibo, the new single from local rock band Syato, is now being heard over popular local stations and has even hit the No. 2 spot of Radyo Natin’s weekly countdown, beating other OPM contenders. The said radio station is broadcasting over key provinces, proving the strength of the track among Filipino listeners, and being an indie release at that.

In Metro Manila, Tibo, about a guy both insecure and in love with a lesbian, has gotten good airplay over Love Radio 90.7, Yes FM 101.1, Energy FM 91.5 and other FM stations. Its music video is shown on MYX and MTV.

The Pinoy rock single is culled off the band’s independently produced 10-track, all original album Sticking By distributed by Candid/Zone 7 Label and now available in record bars.

Most of the songs in the album possess a universal appeal inspired by or based on true stories, including Tibo and other potential single Gabing Bilog Ang Buwan, a folk-alternative rock song that tackles lunacy and social sensibility, and Broken Tuesday, a haunting original that musically brings back listeners to the sound of the ‘80s.

Members of Syato include chief songwriter and bass player Yugel Losorata who is also a music journalist; rhythm guitar player JM delos Santos; drummer Macky Brosas; lead guitarist Elmer Sandig; and vocalist Mark Villagomez, brother of Manila Bulletin writer Kaye Villagomez.

In 2005, Syato released its self-titled debut CD after veteran record producerSnaffu Rigor discovered the band through a chance review of their demo sent to Ivory Records office; he also thought of the band’s street-game name as a nod to original Pinoy sound. Its new album is produced by Rhany Torres (known for his alternative rock and jazz album projects) who ensured that melodic rock sense goes into the arrangement.
