Prom nights in the movies

Joy Jonette Chuyaco - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - What is that special night that teenagers look forward to just before officially leaving high school? Yes, it’s the prom night; it is usually held in a specially-arranged venue. Everyone tries to look at his or her best in the prom; and a lot of firsts also happen during the fateful night. First kiss, first dance, first date. Would it be great to re-live the moments and have another prom night? Well, get ready to reminisce and be part of a prom night once again. Here are some of the most memorable prom night movies — everyone is invited:

Carrie. The movie, written by Stephen Kings, is about a timid and shy teenage girl who has a special power. Most of her classmates bully her. When Carrie finally had enough, she turns their prom night into a bloody one. Pray that Carrie will not be in your prom, or else.

Pretty in Pink. A simple and not so popular girl. A handsome, rich and popular guy. Will their world ever meet? If it does, will they click? This 1986 movie is a classic when it comes to featuring teenage life and the most important night of their life — the prom.

10 Things I Hate About You. Kat is Bianca’s elder sister. Their father’s rule is that Bianca can only date if Kat has a date too. Now, this becomes a problem; So Bianca told her guy, Joey, to look for a date for her sister Kat. They found Patrick, and paid him to do it. Was it a good idea? Will their prom night be a cold one or a romantic one?

Never Been Kissed. Josie Geller is a copy editor who is assigned to go undercover as a high school student. It’s a very challenging task for her because her high school life was a nightmare; but now she needs to act as if she’s happy to be in it. Gradually, she starts to enjoy her second high school life and even gets to attend the prom, to which she had a traumatic experience before. Will it be a better prom night this time?

She’s All That. A heartthrob guy dares to transform a geeky girl into a hottie one which will surely lead her to be the prom queen. Situation gets complicated when the guy starts to fall in love with the girl. Will it be a prom night to remember for the two of them?

High School Musical 3: Senior Year. The gang is back; and this time they are in their senior year. They are excited and nervous for their upcoming college life. But before anything else, they are all-out ready for their prom night. Lots of music and dancing is on the way!

Back to the Future. Would it be wonderful if you’ll have a chance to travel back in time and attend the prom of your parents? Just to see how they were as teenagers. Well, lucky for Marty Mcfly because he had the chance to go back in time to attend a prom held 30 years ago — it was his parents’ prom! Now that’s exciting.

American Pie. Four curious teenage boys are determined to experience “The birds and the bees” before they graduate senior year. A revelation during their prom night takes them off the pressure. Sometimes, surprising events happen in the prom. Be ready.

Prom Night. This is a prom night no one wishes to have, but to watch it is pretty exciting. Donna was a victim of obsession by her former professor who was already captured and in jail. Now, Donna is trying to live a normal life as a senior student; and she is excited about attending her prom, not knowing that her former teacher escaped. Will it be the prom night Donna imagined?

Mean Girls. Every girl would do everything to look at her best, especially on her prom night. This movie is about how girls could be mean when it comes to beauty and fame; but there are more important things than just those — and that’s what this movie wants to tell to all girls, especially the mean ones.
