Tim Yap: Let's party!

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Tim Yap is no stranger to pressure. He even thrives in pressure. When then feuding hosts Joey de Leon and Willie Revillame showed up at last year’s Supreme Awards to get their respective trophies, Tim didn’t panic. He quietly asked the two to go to separate rooms. Then, Tim told his guests, “Guys, you have to let go (of your hurt).”

The rest, as they say is showbiz history. Joey and Willie patched up their differences, magnified many times on national television just months back.

“I think I’m a connector,” Tim muses. “In this job, you just have to believe in the innate goodness of people.”

Believing in the God within each of us has resolved many conflicts, not only between former friends, but even in recovering stolen signature bags.

Tim recalls how he himself bolted past the doors of Embassy, the party place he owns and sprinted to the parking area. His urgent mission: To retrieve a Balenciaga one of the Embassy’s lady guests lost.

“I myself got the bag back, went to the police precinct with the thief, and gave the Balenciaga back to its rightful owner,” reports Tim.

The only thing he couldn’t do was invite the two society ladies in the controversial pepper spray incident to his party.

“I might end up getting the pepper spray!” Tim guffaws.

Only those close to Tim know he has this non-serious side to him. As he says, “People think I take myself seriously. I know how not to take myself seriously.”

Take the time he ended up with a swollen lip after appeasing two warring party guests. Tim’s only observation was, “Thank goodness the swelling appeared when the party was over. Or else, imagine how I would look! Timing was perfect!”

This sense of fun and for holding parties come in handy now that Q-11 has tapped Tim and Sam Oh to host the show Events Incorporated, to premiere tonight at 6.

The show is not just about letting your hair down week after week. The lifestyle show also offers tips on how to hold parties and make them fun, fun, fun.

Mothers, for instance, can get tips on how to hold a birthday party for their precious ones. Tim will teach them how to come up with elements for a fun affair (e.g. dressing up the place), how to create good vibes among the guests, etc.

Perhaps he can also share a thing or two about keeping one’s cool when say, two ex-girlfriends suddenly show up at the same party?

“My peripheral vision is 360 degrees,” Tim explains. This way, he can spot trouble a mile away.

He also makes it a point to stay sober. “How can I control a party if I’m too drunk? I have to take care of people if they get into trouble,” he adds.

You have to take his word for it. After all, he’s the party expert.
