KC versus hunger

The Philippine Star

Being a celebrity is not just about screaming fans, glaring camera lights and handsome leading men. It’s more about setting a good example.

Figures why KC Concepcion (photo) has been going to far-flung Mindanao to raise funds to feed hungry children there.

As the United Nations’ World Food Programme National Ambassador Against Hunger in the Philippines, KC went to the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Asia Meeting in Hong Kong where she listened to world leaders like former US president Bill Clinton, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, philanthropists, celebrities, athletes, and social advocates. They discussed major problems confronting the world, foremost of which is hunger.

‘I made a personal commitment in CGI that I’d be more involved in the campaign against hunger in the Philippines,’ says KC. ‘We have prepared an action plan for more site visits in Mindanao, fund-raising activities and increasing public awareness through media so that more people will be involved.’

KC is positive that the fight to give children a healthier, more secure future will be won. She, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell will make sure of that. In fact, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell turned over a total of P1,229,909 to the UN WFP. The funds came from the companies’ customers nationwide.

Yes, it still is a beautiful world. Kind hearts and helping hands make it so. — Maridol Rañoa-Bismark
