PULP passes to Kjwan's album launch

The Philippine Star

It’s another red-letter month as PULP Magazine gears up for an exciting year ahead and promises a bigger bang with not one, but two covers featuring the hottest acts in the local rock music scene.

Internationally acclaimed rock act Kjwan — indeed one of the most exciting rock acts to fuel the mainstream airwaves with high-octane rock n’ roll and sizzling sex appeal — takes the honors of being cover artists as the members are about to unleash their latest collection of rock anthems 13 Seconds To Love, an album which will exclusively be available through the new Nokia 5800 Express Music. And what’s even better is that fans who hurry and buy this month’s issue of PULP will automatically gain entrance to the event (on Feb. 6 at the A. Venue Events Hall along Makati Ave.) as the magazine serves as the ticket to 13 Seconds To Love — The Album Launch. Tickets will also be available at the gate on the event date or call 687-1709 for details.

But that’s just the beginning as the December-January issue of PULP packs more than just a punch, as Red Horse Beer’s roster of rock superstars are given superhuman powers via the graphic artistry of photographer/layout artist Paolo Seen. Watch out for your favorite “roboticized” rock personalities like Queso vocalist Ian Tayao, Greyhoundz frontman Reg Rubio, Typecast’s Steve Badiola, Kapatid’s Karl Roy, Slapshock’s Jamir Garcia, Kjwan’s Marc Abaya, Urbandub’s Gabbby Alipe, Mayonnaise vocalist Monty Macalino and other members of Red Horse Beer Muziklaban Champs 18th Issue.

For the fans of the loud, Metallica takes center stage once again with its latest barrage Death Magnetic, the return-to-roots release which finds the band at its creative best yet. In the exclusive PULP feature, the band-vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield, drummer Lars Ulrich, guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Rob Trujillo recount the recording process and offer their views on the band post-St. Anger.

Up Dharma Down, which recently released its sophomore disc Bipolar under independent label Terno Records, also shares the makings of its new record. Since the group’s 2006 debut Fragmented, Up Dharma Down has proven to be an unstoppable force to be reckoned with, both live and in the studio, as the clamor for its sound can only get bigger. Read on and find out what makes the band tick.

PULP is available nationwide at all leading bookstores and magazine shops for only P120.
