Ü WOMEN: Mirth & candor on Q-11
Following the success of Camera Café, creators of the five-minute comedy show have cooked up another TV program that promises mirth and candor with its unique brand of humor. Titled Ü WOMEN (pronounced “You Women” but written as “Ü” with an umlaut), the show mixes an assortment of situations where women can get into trouble at home, at work, in the shopping mall, swimming pool, the street and others.
Ü WOMEN premieres Monday, Jan. 12 and airs on Q-11, Mondays to Fridays, at 10:05 a.m., 2 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. (back to back with Camera Café). It stars Assunta de Rossi, Candy Pangilinan Tuesday Vargas and Kalila Aguilos, who all play multiple roles. Each episode has three to four short sketches (mostly without dialogue) that exhibit the actresses’ capacity for physical humor (not derogatory slapstick or toilet humor), candidness, spontaneity and comic timing. They are supported by Camera Café mainstays Christian Vazquez, Arnold Reyes and Gerhard Acao. Award-winner Mark Meily and French producer Henri de Lorme share directorial credits, while writers of the pilot season are also from the Asian TV Awards winning team of Camera Café.
Ü WOMEN is a sister show of Camera Café since it was also born in France (Calt International’s Vous Les Femmes). Basically, the same talents and staff are also working on the show, from the actors, producers, director, scriptwriters, etc. to the caterer, driver and all. Aside from having Tuesday as the new face in the team, the difference in the show is its look since it changes locations, and each actress is challenged to shift roles from being a chic office girl to a doting mother or paranoid wife. The stories and jokes are endless.
Also overseeing production, de Lorme is confident the show will resonate among Filipino audiences. Most of the humor is physical and can be understood by different cultures. Ü WOMEN is locally produced by Euro-Asia Media Group Ltd., its official representative being Axantis Productions, Inc.
Q-11 Vice President for programming Joey Abacan, program manager Mitzi Garcia and administrator Rea Jose continue to show faith in the production team and have taken the risk of yet getting a new show like Ü WOMEN into broadcast.
