12 Movies of Christmas

Once again, it’s Christmas. Most people are busy shopping, partying, eating and giving gifts to their family and friends. Everyday seems to be a holiday when this season comes; especially when all the sparkling bright lights are on and people happily greet each other “Merry Christmas.” Together in celebrating the season, reserve your 12 nights, along with your loved ones, for this 12 movies of Christmas that will complement your celebration.

Home Alone. This successful 1990 movie, about Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) who’s accidentally left alone by his family on Christmas holiday, has become a family favorite ever since. No wonder, even after several years, it is still be on the list of “must-see” Christmas movies. 

The Holiday. One of the most exciting gifts for Christmas is to experience it in another place. If it’s not possible, then allow this movie to take you to the house-swapping deal of Amanda Woods (Cameron Diaz) and Iris Simpkins (Kate Winslet) as they switch houses for the holiday and surprisingly found love. 

Polar Express. Take the whole family on a journey to the land of Santa Claus. This movie will surely bring out the “Santa Claus” spirit in everyone. Make sure that the whole family is in their pajamas too, just like the kids from the movie — just to create that “Polar Express” ambiance. It’s fun. 

Miracle on the 34th St. Still in doubt if Santa Claus is real? Join six-year-old Susan (Mara Wilson) in meeting the shopping mall Santa Claus who regards himself as the real one. There are doubts, there are judgments, but the answer is to believe. Will Susan finally believe?

Jingle All the Way. This comedy is about two dads Howard and Myron (Arnold Schwarzenneger and Sinbad) who need to go shopping on Christmas Eve for their sons’ Turbo Man, a toy almost every kid in town wished for. What they thought would be an easy task was challenging after all. But what’s the most important thing, the turbo man or a father?     

Joyeux Noel. Anything can happen during Christmas, even the impossible. This 2005 movie is about World War I, when French, German and Scottish troops took a moment off from war come Christmas Day and brought peace and friendship to each other. They are not threatened by the reactions they may get from their higher officers.    

All I Want for Christmas. As the movie tag line says: “How far will you go to make a wish come true?” This movie is about the ultimate wish of siblings Ethan and Hallie; and that is to bring their parents back together on Christmas. With all the obstacles they’re about to face, they need to believe in their wish in order to succeed.

Die Hard. This action-packed movie is complete with a Christmas package. John McClane (Bruce Willis) is having a Christmas-of-a-lifetime: A rocky marriage to fix and a building full of terrorist to rescue. With all his courage and wit, he will do just about anything to set everything straight and have a real wonderful Christmas.

Christmas with the Kranks. When couple Luther and Nora Krank decides to skip Christmas by going on a cruise, they are shocked to hear from their daughter who decided to spend Christmas with them, along with her fiancé, in their house. Now, all Luther and Nora have is 12 hours to prepare everything for their daughter and her fiancé’s arrival. What a rush.

Deck the Halls. During Christmas, everybody gets in the mood for decorating their homes with bright lights and trimmings. Most often than not, it becomes a competition of whose house looks better . This is what the movie is all about. Two neighbors who are busy competing to come up with the brightest house almost forget the true meaning of Christmas.

The 4th Wiseman. The movie gives credit to Artaban (Martin Sheen), said to be the fourth Wiseman, who was left behind during the journey to Bethlehem because he stops from time to time to help the poor and sick people he encounters. Will this good-hearted man finally meet the King of Kings? 

The Nativity Story. The list will not be complete without a film that centers on the reason for the season: Jesus. The Nativity Story (released in 2006), along with other movies about the birth of Christ, is a must-see during Christmas; it will surely touch anybody’s heart, including the kids’.
