Sam Oh speaks up again
Talking is not just a business to Sam Oh. It’s her life. That’s why when Q-11 asked her to co-host its lifestyle magazine show Living It Up which airs Saturday nights at 6, she said yes without batting an eyelash.
“I really like hosting,” offers Sam, a Korean who was raised in the Philippines and has been enjoying a Filipino lifestyle for 22 years.
“I find it pleasurable and enjoyable. When I was in school, I wanted to be first to do reporting in the class, while my classmates dreaded to talk in front of everybody. I like to talk to people and present ideas to everyone. Though I like to speak a lot, it’s not the spotlight I’m after,” Sam goes on.
That’s why Sam stayed on her etc show titled Rated Oh! for three years, covering goings-on in the metropolis. But the bubbly, always-on-the-go Sam had to take the backseat for a while to energize herself for bigger things in life.
“It wasn’t him (my co-host),” says Sam of the reason why she left the show. “I was just exhausted. There was so much work for the past three years. My work started in the morning and wrapped up in the evening. So, I resigned in December. Aside from that, I have a radio show.” Sam does on-board and DJ work for Hit 99.5 FM’s Sam vs Sam (with former co-host Sam YG) and joins The Hit Morning Crew with DJs Sonny Bennii and Cristina. The former FHM Girl will soon sign off from radio.
It took Sam two months to realize that her sojourn from the limelight was enough. Good thing the offer to host Living It Up came. She has to unleash her gift of gab.
For Living It Up which she co-hosts with Raymond Gutierrez, Tim Yap and Issa Litton, Sam dabbles in everything and does event capsules. Like in her previous show, she will also dish out beauty and kikay tips, among others. Thus, Sam will play, for the meantime, Jack of All Trades.
If there’s one thing she would love to do for Living It Up, it’s the food segment. “I enjoy eating,” quips Sam. “I can cook pasta and kimchi fried rice.”
Asked what’s her edge over other TV hosts, the International Studies graduate of De La Salle University-Manila replies, “I hear the word ‘spontaneous’ a lot. I think what’s important is I get over myself if I trip.”
Living It Up gives televiewers a weekly sneak-peek on places to go to, things to try, people to meet and dishes to taste.
On the show, Tim checks out the different parties to see and to be seen, while Issa takes the adventurous side of life and shows that one can be daring and prim and proper at the same time.
Raymond interviews personalities and presents high-end alternatives to explore. There’s also celebrity profiles segment where movers and shakers are featured weekly.
What Sam likes about working on Living It Up is that her schedule allows her to have more time for herself and for fitness regimens like yoga. On top of everything, she spends quality time with the family. This is the kind of life Sam wants to enjoy.
