The Supah Dance groove

SOUNDS FAMILIAR - Baby A. Gil -

The increased level of music activity during the weeks leading up to the Christmas Season does not only mean having the chance to listen to those well-loved Christmas songs once again.  It is also a chance to indulge yourselves in all those exciting albums by big name artists released just in time to cash in on the Holiday shopping binge. And last but certainly not the least, it also means the merry round of Christmas parties.

And when you have parties, more often than not, you also have to have dancing for which you should provide dance music. Filipinos love to sing more than they love to dance. That is why karaokes and sing-alongs are hits throughout the year and not the dance CDs.  But they invariably get rid of their shyness during the merrymaking period. This is the reason why it is also during this time of year when our dance albums come out.

First to hit the stores this year is Supah Dance. It is an Audio Video Compact Disc or an AVCD. That means that if played on VCD machines, the materials on cut number one will play with video and will then be automatically followed by cut five. These tracks are the Supah Dance Instructional Music Videos, Supah Dance Interlude, Dulce Tirah Tirah, Stop ‘N’ Go and Kokey (Dance Remix).

Take note that these are instructional. They teach people how to dance. You can learn the steps by watching the video. So there is really no more excuse for anybody not to hit the dance floor once the music starts playing. You will never get to look like Shaina Magdayao but who knows you might find yourselves grooving to the beat the way those kids do in the TV variety show A.S.A.P. every Sunday.

Supah Dance is actually an off-shoot of one of the most popular segments in the history of A.S.A.P. The top-rating one-hour portion has the likes of John Prats, the Dance Floor Dynamite; Maja Salvador, the Dance Floor Princess; Shaina, the Dance Floor Sweetheart; and Dance Floor Hottie Rayver Cruz dancing their hearts out to the latest tunes.  Out of this was formed the group now known as the Ultimate Dance Four or UD4, which in turn led to the dance hit Kembot from the Ultimate Dance 4 dance album.  And now here comes Supah Dance where they do Dulce Tirah Tirah.

The UD4 is joined by other energetic movers in the video and these artists also perform in the regular audio portion of the album. These are the sounds you will get if you play the disc on a regular CD player.  Only the audio recording will automatically play.  So these are what you are supposed to dance to after you have learned the steps.

These cuts are Boom Tiyaya Boom by Vhong Navarro; Hip Hop Salsa by Iya Villania; Real Man by Vina Morales; Shake Yo Thang by Gabriel Valenciano; Bump That Booty (Bump Bump) by Gerald Anderson; Uhm Ahh Ahh by Milagring/Mariposa/Luningning  the ASF Girls of Wowowee; Dancing Naked by the Kitty Girls; and Rockin’ Crazy by the Full Circle Teens. Even TV alien Kokey gets into the act with a Dance Remix of the Kokey Theme and the Kembot Christmas Dance Remix as bonus cuts in the CD.

So ready now, get into the Supah Dance groove and be the life of those Christmas parties.
