But can they make us cry?

- Bot Glorioso -

If seven days without laughter can weaken and sicken, then two generic laughter pills can only strengthen.

I am talking about Keanna Reeves and Pooh, who have been tickling our funny bones for sometime now. But would they be as effective if the two branch out in drama?

“I can do it, no doubt,“ Keanna says referring to more dramatic stints on screen soon.

Why not? Life for Keanna before she entered showbiz was full of drama. A hard-up life and an unhappy marriage are enough motivations for tears to fall. That sad chapter in her life, once featured on ABS-CBN’s Maalaala Mo Kaya a year ago, has already drained her tears.

The Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition grand winner heeded direk Erik Reyes’ advice: Absorb the story to feel the character’s emotion. This way, acting becomes sincere and can also be heart-wrenching without buckets of tears falling.

Result: Guada, Keanna‘s character on Maging Sino Ka Man (MSKM), has become so effective on screen, whether with Yuri (John Lloyd Cruz) or any character in the story. She will still be seen on the teleserye’s Book 2.

“Imagine, I can now pit talents with drama stars like John Lloyd and Bea Alonzo. That for me is already an achievement,” Keanna says happily.

In preparation for MSKM 2 which will be aired soon, Keanna will attend an acting workshop in July to hone her drama skills so she can be like Maricel Soriano, Ai-Ai de las Alas or Rosanna Roces who can dabble in drama and comedy.

Rosanna inspires Keanna more since they have a lot in common. They both started as sexy stars and like Osang, Keanna is as natural and frank as can be.

“I am the type who hides nothing. I don’t want unsavory issues hounding me,” the Waray states.

That’s why she is quick to clear her name regarding negative issues hurled at her.

For now, Keanna is spending time working out in the gym and trying her hand in the gadgets business like cell phones with French international model boyfriend Sofiane as business partner.

Pooh, on the other hand, would rather hold stand-up acts in comedy bars like Klownz and Punchline before immersing himself totally in showbiz waters.

It was on Wowowee where things started coming up roses for Pooh. Host Willie Revillame openly expressed his admiration for Pooh after he blurted out funny lines as guest of the show. It led to more comedy stints for Pooh, who is now in the cast of John en Shirley.

“It’s a dream come true. I always wanted to perform on screen,” says Pooh.

Pooh has been making people laugh since his younger days in Samar. It was in college when Pooh started doing stand-up shows in bars around Caloocan City until he was eventually invited to perform at Punchline.

He has pitted comedic talents with the likes of Tessie Tomas, Candy Pangilinan and Chokoleit in Rock da Vote. There are plans to bring the show to the US probably in September. Pooh will also delve into drama via the upcoming ABS-CBN dramaserye Pangarap na Bituin with Sarah Geronimo in the lead. Pooh will play Maja Salvador’s surrogate father.

“Though I’m good at comedy, I can also be serious as serious can be,“ Pooh says without batting an eyelash.

Pooh is serious in everything he does and is bent on becoming successful, whether he is in showbiz or not.

The Computer Science graduate says, “My family is conservative. That’s why I won’t do anything to harm our name.”

His US-based mom didn’t know Pooh is now a celebrity until she saw him on TFC. But that is okay, as long as the comedian doesn’t do anything bad.

“Now that I’m here, I will try to make everyone happy,” says Pooh.

And will he also make us cry?
