The new face of Zsazsa Zaturnnah
Not all that glitters is gold. Ask K Brosas, who has turned down more lucrative offers to focus on Zsazsa Zaturnnah: Ze Muzikal, where she will play the lead role with Eula Valdez starting June 15 to July 2 at the RCBC Plaza, Makati City.
“It’s my stage comeback after 20 years (she started out in PETA at age 12). And I can’t wait,” K gushes.
It doesn’t matter that theater pays less than TV and film. All she knows that the character — funny, sexy and feisty — is K Brosas personified. And she’s dropping everything to make sure everything is done right.
“I’m doing it for art’s sake,” reveals K. “And I don’t mind turning down offers to do corporate shows because of this.”
And when she’s doing something for art’s sake, expect K to enjoy every minute — from rehearsals to the play itself.
K plans to make her Zaturnnah character her own, not a copycat of previous interpretations. Thus, she is giving Zsazsa a male voice just when she turns into a female. That’s where the laughter — among other sources, that is — is expected to come from.
K will also show off her curves in a skin-tight outfit with a t-back to boot.
Now that she’s playing the title role, K feels the pressure of making or breaking a show bearing down on her. RCBC Theater’s 1,000 seating capacity can also seem as daunting as climbing
But it is, for her, a welcome kind of pressure, pushing K to give it all she’s got.
“I just know I’ll do my best,” she says through gritted teeth.
Showbiz insiders know where the confidence is coming from. K is a veteran of Ratsky, Klownz, Zirkoh and other venues of live shows where she and her group, K and The Boxers have performed. She makes televiewers laugh as a mainstay of GMA 7’s Bitoy’s Funniest Home Videos and HP...Ibang Level Na ’To!.
But even as her 10-year-old daughter Crystal catches these evening weekend shows, the same can’t be said of Zsazsa Zaturnnah. K’s lines, skin-tight costume, and the story itself are too delicate for a kid. So K herself has decided to keep her only child away from this one.
Besides, the girl, who shows an interest in performing, can watch K’s other gigs.
For her, K has put up an Internet shop in whose name is as catchy as its owner’s shows: K Browse. For starters, it has eight computers, plus other services like digital printing, ink refilling and others.
Since she’s too busy to manage the shop herself, K has entrusted its daily operations to her best friend. Its strategic location — along
She grew up in the area and thus knows the heavily — populated place by heart.
“It has a heavy student population, the kind of crowd the Internet shop caters to,” explains K.
At least you know she’s not throwing away her hard-earned money in worthless pursuits. She is investing it well, and making hay while the sun shines.
