PBB evictee Dionne Monsanto: I had fun

-

Cebuana Dionne Monsanto was nominated for eviction for four consecutive times. Worse, she figured in an intimate encounter with fellow housemate Zeke Dimaguila that saw Dionne biting the Fil-Aussie boy.

Any form of physical abuse is a no-no in Big Brother’s house. The violation means forced expulsion.

That’s why, when Kuya said it’s the end of the road for Dionne two Sundays ago, the fifth evictee was all smiles. as if saying  she saw it coming long before.

“It was fun despite controversies,” Dionne describes  her 60-plus days in the Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) house.

“After what happened between me and Zeke, I think it was normal since we were in an artificial environment. There were actions and feelings you never thought you could feel and do. Before Zeke left the house (the first time), we talked about the incident while doing the water mill task. He apologized, and I accepted his apology. There was a closure. Despite everything, I will surely miss the housemates.”

When she recently met up with the press for an interview, Dionne hardly showed any sign of defeat or exhaustion.

This is not surprising to someone who is no stranger to life’s harsh realities.

The sophomore Mass Communication student from the University of the Philippines-Cebu grew up fatherless. Her father left the family for another woman when Dionne was barely a year old. Her mom was left with nothing, except young kids to take care of.

Dionne saw how her mom scrimped on her meager salary as government employee. They had only enough money for their needs. Dionne and her siblings never enjoyed a comfortable life.

Despite their situation, Dionne’s mom sent them to better schools. She says her mom believes in a good education. Her mom’s  struggles inspired Dionne to join the reality TV search.

“My mom is strong and tough,” says Dionne. “She deserves a better life, considering what she has gone through.”

If Dionne would win PBB Season Two, she would surely donate half of her winnings to charitable institutions to finance outreach programs.

When she was in high school, Dionne taught catechism, fed less fortunate kids and adopted a poor community. She would give the other half of the prizes to her mom.

Although these dreams seem far-fetched at the moment, Dionne is determined to achieve them soon.

Asked if she has plans of entering showbiz, Dionne replies, “Yes, given the opportunity. But I promised those close to me I will never show some skin.”

Among the new crop of housemates, Dionne is one of those few who are showbiz material. She has acted in and hosted regional shows, making her a familiar face in Cebu. The 21-year-old sports enthusiast even auditioned for ABS-CBN’s now defunct talent search, Star Circle Quest.
