Mico in the footsteps of his idol Gary V.

-
What goes around comes around. No matter how he delayed – or put aside – his singing career a few years back to give way to a palatable offer, Mico Aytona is treading the path his idol Gary Valenciano has successfully taken.

Genesis is perhaps the perfect place where Mico could jump-start his musical career.

He just wants to unleash the crooner in him and share his music with others. He knows the road to reaching his dream – and stardom – will never be easy.

Tinseltown had a first glance of Mico when ABS-CBN’s Star Magic launched the all-boy dance group Anime of which he is a member. Mico shows his terpsichorean skills every time the group performs. He is known for his clean moves and joie de vivre. He could eclipse professional dancers his age. Seeing him dancing much of his career, televiewers will surely have a hard time buying the idea that Mico has ventured into singing.

At the pocket presscon Genesis tendered for the young artist, Mico gave everyone a sample of his talent by singing How Did You Know. He made the song his own. This is not surprising to those close to him. After all, Mico was a member of Kundirana before the showbiz bug bit him. He was then a student at La Salle Greenhills. Mico’s Kundirana stint was rudely interrupted, however, when Anime entered the scene.

Aside from performing with Anime, Mico has done TV series like Ang TV2, Spirits, Maalaala Mo Kaya, Vietnam Rose and movies like Dubai and Kung Ako Na Lang Sana.

Mico also attended a workshop of Trumpets where he honed his performing talent. Even at an early age, Mico knew he was meant for a life of sounds, sights and lights.

Professionalism and punctuality, Mico says, are two of the many things theater has taught him. He never had a long adjustment period when he joined Star Magic.

What does his new management have in store for him? Mico says that Genesis will explore a possible musical career for him. He has just recorded two songs to be distributed to recording companies for an album.

He adds that Genesis also plans to put up his own band which will play pop-alternative songs. Mico has also written English and Tagalog songs. Usher, Justine Timberlake and Gary Valenciano are his musical influences.

In spite of his showbiz work, Mico finds time for his studies. He is a Theater Arts freshman at the University of the Philippines-Diliman. His student life begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. Mico has no problem shuttling straight from school to work. It’s all a matter of time management, he says.

Although he also wishes to act more and direct a film, singing – and dancing – are what matter more to Mico. He will never let this chance pass again.
