May 14, 2006 | 12:00am
Actor's Actors Inc., one of the country's most respected companies opens its doors to aspiring and professional performers in its 2006 Summer Acting workshop. Open to teens and adults only, the workshops will be intensive and craft-centered and will only be available to those who are seriously pursuing a career in performance.
The workshops will be conducted by Aliw Award-winning actor, director and producer of the theater, Bart Guingona who most recently directed the smash hit musical "Once on This Island." Guingona, who has completed grants in London for theater direction and theater education, will employ a wide range of methodologies, theoretical and practical applications to help bring out the individual's own gift of expressive confidence. From text analysis to vocal techniques to "method" theories, the workshop aims to equip the aspiring performer with an arsenal of weapons that will help him or her to transcend mere proficiency and step into brilliance.
Guingona, who has directed some of the most acclaimed productions in recent memory was a resident with Repertory for 9 years before co-founding AAI with other Repertory veterans such as Jaime del Mundo, Michael Williams, Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo, Dodo Lim, Roselyn Perez and Cita Astals among others. AAI has since produced plays such as Hurlyburly, Five Women Wearing the Same Dress, Mother Tongue, Hamlet, Oleanna, Once on This Island, Art, Love Letters and many other critically acclaimed productions. It is now in the process of casting and rehearsing the new musical Children's Letters to God as well as rehearsing a controversial adaptation of the Ibsen classic Enemy of the People, both of which have July target playdates.
The three-week workshop will begin on May 8 and end on May 26 and will have very limited slots available. For inquiries, call AAI at 5365844, text 09175278746 or email at [email protected].
