Moms do unexpected things

SIZZLING HOT - SIZZLING HOT By Juliana Palermo -
I believe women need a lot more appreciation than they get, simply because they seem to have a lot more things to worry about than men.

It seems women are not as appreciated as much as they used to be.

They were known as the one walking "barefoot pregnant" at home while the men go out and work. I know it doesn’t sound so nice, but that’s the truth.

These days, however, women have become strong enough to go out on their own and make a life for themselves.

Even having a child and being a single parent is not so surprising anymore. Motherhood itself must be one heck of a job.

I may not have a full understanding of how it’s like to be a mother. Loving and being responsible for a child is not easy, but very fulfilling.

I can’t even begin to imagine how hard it must be to be a mother, especially if I end up with a "strong-willed" kid.

Our parents deserve all the appreciation in the world for raising their children. Both parties may not get along all the time. But at some point, we realize that no matter what happens, we can always count on them when everyone else is gone.

My childhood was not really the best. My mom went away for work during my first few years of life.

It made me sad and I felt jealous towards other kids who had their moms by their side. But somehow, I learned to appreciate my mom because I knew in my heart she only did that because of us, her children.

Now that I’ve grown a bit, I’m beginning to understand what went on during those years and I’m beginning to get to know my mom.

I’m so lucky to be blessed with my father’s wife, Mommy Cathy, who came into my life a few years after my parents separated. She took me in and treated me like her own.

When I entered showbusiness, the words mother, Mama, Nanay and others are often used.

There’s Mother Lily (Monteverde) of Regal Films, Mommy Rose Flaminiano of FLT Films and Nanay Lolit Solis.

I used to get so confused because even people of the opposite sex were being called these names, like Mother Ricky Reyes.

After a while, I noticed that people called by these names take good care of artists and somehow have concerns similar to moms.

The use of these terms even in the entertainment business clearly states a mother’s duties.

When we say mother, it normally means, "in charge," or someone responsible for certain individuals.

Speaking of mothers in the business, I surely miss working with Tita Gloria Romero.

She’s such a sweetheart. I met a couple of her family members and I’ve seen how she is with them.

She is just such a mom and a lola. She always gave me pieces of advice every time she noticed that something was bothering me.

I miss that about my sister, who’s also a mom now. She used to be the one always bringing me back to reality every time I lost it. It’s always nice to get pieces of advice from moms.

The concern and sincerity they show are unlike any other. This Mother’s Day should be celebrated with lots of love and appreciation.

Let’s not forget those days when our moms had to run to our schools and talk to our teachers about the days we’ve skipped class.

Or when she shocked you by wearing a two-piece swimsuit to your condo swimming pool, or argued with the judges when you don’t win a contest.

Moms can do the most unexpected things. They can make you cry your eyes out and laugh your head off. Happy Mother’s Day to all you moms out there! Have a great Sunday!
