Gossip, juicy gossip

SIZZLING HOT - SIZZLING HOT By Juliana Palermo -
Gossip, gossip, gossip. Oh, it sounds so juicy, you just can’t resist it.

It seems like gossip has become a part of our everyday lives here in the Philippines. The entertainment section of every newspaper is usually the most interesting to look at.

People just love getting information on other people’s lives, especially those in showbusiness.

Don’t take me the wrong way. But we all have to admit that somewhere in our system, we have this small part of us that has interest in gossip.

This doesn’t necessarily mean we’re nosy or chismosa. It’s simply a human instinct but I guess I can say it applies more to Filipinos than any other nationality.

My friend Ann says, "People enjoy gossip. But, at the same time, it destroys lives and relationships, because most people dwell on negative gossip. They listen to and believe the negative gossip more."

Even people who are not in showbusiness go through hard times when it comes to gossip.

"May nag-text minsan sa akin ng condolence sa pagkamatay ng papa ko. Of course, I felt offended because it was false. Someone just spread the rumor that something bad happened to my father so I would get hurt. It was unfair," Ann says.

I totally agree that gossiping can be most unfair while my mom actually admits that, "chismis is fun as long as you don’t hurt people."

Technically, gossip supports people in the entertainment business. Without gossip, the entertainment business won’t be as interesting.

In fact, two weeks ago, there was a very interesting gossip somebody wrote about me. The writer’s source apparently claims they saw me inside a gay bar on a Saturday night, while I was actually doing groceries in a 24-hour supermarket somewhere in Libis.

The writer said I went inside the bar wearing a cap then went straight to a VIP room as if I was hiding.

I have absolutely nothing against going to gay bars, except that I’ve never really been to one. If ever I were able to go to one, it wouldn’t be something for me to hide or be ashamed of.

That was my only time to do some last-minute grocery shopping because I was actually just admitted to the E.R. (emergency room) the day after due to overfatigue from shooting two movies every day the past few weeks. It gets tiring.

I felt no need to be confined because I really didn’t want to ruin my schedule. A few days after, I began to feel a bit sick. Eventually, I had to be admitted to the hospital last week after my shooting for Star Cinema on Thursday night.

I felt so bad that I wasn’t able to make it to my taping for Family Zoo, QTV 11’s new sitcom.

Good thing a good friend of mine, Sheree, was able to substitute for me despite the late notice.

I was in the hospital until last Monday. Somewhere between Thursday and Monday, a rumor had been passed around that I had a miscarriage.

I had absolutely no energy left to even react to that gossip. In fact, I felt so important that people actually take time making conclusions as to why I was confined in the hospital.

I was touched, and thought to myself, "Shouldn’t pregnancy come before a miscarriage?"

Well, for me, the best gossip I’ve heard is actually my mom coming home from the US.

I thought I was hallucinating from my antibiotics when I heard my mom’s voice on the phone saying she’d be coming home to take care of me and make sure the doctors are doing everything they could for me.

I was like, "Whaaaat?!" After 10 years, she finally decided to give in and come home. The first thing that entered my mind was my brother!

My mom totally caught me by surprise! I’ve never been this excited before!

So, this simply means being confined and eating hospital food paid off very well eh?! Have a great Sunday!
