Miles Away added to Zombies repertoire

- Joaquin M. Henson -
Concert promoter Steve O’Neal said the Zombies are adding the Colin Blunstone’s hit single Miles Away to their set list for the British band’s shows at the Hard Rock in Glorietta Makati tonight, Araneta Coliseum (Feb. 13) and the Ynares Center in Antipolo (Feb. 14).

Miles Away
was recorded by Blunstone, the Zombies lead vocalist, as a solo single and has received repeated airplay in the Philippines.

Blunstone and keyboard artist Rod Argent head the Zombies who arrived here Tuesday morning. The other band members are former Kinks bassist Jim Rodford, drummer Steve Rodford and guitarist Keith Airey.

Aside from Miles Away, the Zombies will sing a slew of hits including She’s Not There, Tell Her No, I Remember When I Loved Her, I Don’t Believe in Miracles, Old and Wise, Misty Roses, Indication, Time of the Season, The Way I Feel Inside and I Love You.

The Manila shows mark the Zombies’ first Asian tour in nearly 40 years.

In 1967, the Zombies performed in 10 sell-out shows at the Araneta Coliseum and four more concerts at the Plaza Restaurant, El Dorado Club and the Nile Club.

What made the Zombies a legend in pop music was their unique combination of Blunstone’s velvety-smooth, breathy delivery and Argent’s driving keyboard rhythm.

Blunstone and Argent, who were here in 1967, said they promise an unforgettable series of shows to prove that the Zombies are alive and kicking in their fourth decade of existence.

(Tickets for the Araneta and Ynares shows are available at Ticketnet (Tel. 911-5555) and reservations are being accepted for the Hard Rock concert at 893-4661 to 64.)
