Jolo: Never did I doubt that I am Gab’s father

FUNFARE - Ricky Lo -
The chinky eyes. The thick eyebrows. The strong hands. The powerful legs. Every part of the boy’s body is, in fact, very Revilla.

"That’s why never for a moment did I ever doubt that I am Gabriel’s father," Jolo Revilla told Funfare in an exclusive interview in Los Angeles in reaction to the DNA result pointing to him as, yes, the biological father of his love son, Jose Gabriel Bautista, with Grace Adriano, Rosanna Roces’ daughter, a minor who gave birth on Jan. 13. "Revillang-Revilla ang bata – ang mata, ang kilay, at ang mga kamay at paa."

The DNA test was requested by Jolo’s parents, Sen. Bong Revilla and Lani Mercado, after reports came out that Grace insinuated on friendSter blog that the baby’s father was somebody else, adding fire to the controversy which was then starting to rage between Bong/Lani and Rosanna Roces.

Jolo submitted his blood samples last August before he left for L.A. to continue his studies. Gab’s blood samples were submitted, too. The DNA test result, which was positive, came out only last week, at the same time that Funfare was on a stopover in L.A. on the way to New York for the Memoirs of a Geisha press junket (more on that in future issues).

Lolit Solis and Jojo Gabinete were in L.A, and they invited Jolo to our dinner date at the Goofy’s Chicken beside Disneyland Hotel where Lolit and Jojo were billeted (along with Lolit’s daughter Sneezy, her husband Thomas McDonald and their three-year-old son Kinsey Thomas). Jolo drove 30 minutes from Anaheim where he’s staying and enrolled in a private school (one of the three best in America) as a senior student.

So how’s his relationship with Grace now that his paternity has been proven beyond doubt?

"We are civil," said Jolo. "We communicate. She sends me photos of Gab regularly. I keep one in my wallet. I also see Gab’s photos on the webcam," added Jolo who last saw the baby in person last July before the Rosanna-Bong/Lani feud erupted. " I hope that all is well now. I saw Tita Osang (Rosanna Roces) on The Buzz last Sunday and she said that she would ask Grace to let (my family) borrow Gab again. I texted ‘thank you’ to her. Sana maayos na ang gusto."

In L.A., Jolo is keeping his promise to his mom and dad that he would religiously attend to his studies. He would have been in his senior year at La Salle-Zobel when his parents sent him to L.A., away from the heat. In the US, grade/elementary school is from Grades 1 to 8 and high school from first year to fourth year just like in the Philippines.

"I was accelerated," said Jolo. "Sana third year pa lang ako doon if they went by the system which requires you to finish eight years of grade and elementary school."

Jolo has classes every day, 7:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; and 7:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

On weekends, when he’s not busy with the laundry and cleaning the house (he lives with a guardian), Jolo surfs at Huntington Beach, watches movies at the mall with his guardian or works out at the gym. He has a well-trimmed body and, he proudly revealed, "I’ve grown two inches taller; I now stand 5’9"."

There, Jolo goes around without a bodyguard.

He’s coming home first week of December to help promote Exodus, 2005 Metro Filmfest entry of the Revillas’ own Imus Productions, which features three generations of Revillas – former Sen. Ramon Revilla Sr., Sen. Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr. and Jolo. It could have been four, except that Gab wasn’t permitted by his Lola Osang to do a "guest" appreance as the young Exodus, the character played by Bong (with Jolo as the teen character).

He’ll go back to L.A. on Jan. 1 next year and resume his classes which end on June 25, 2006. But he hopes to come home for a two-week break in March or April. After graduation, he plans to take up either Political Science or Public Administration at either La Salle or Ateneo or UP.

Already, Jolo (who’s turning 18 on March 15 next year) is stocking up on pasalubong for Gab, mostly clothes because the boy is too young to play with toys.

"I really miss my son." said Jolo, "especially when I see kids his age. Grace texted me that she’s excited to see how I will react when I see Gab. I’m just as excited."
