Theres a new singing sensation on the rise and her name is Kim Trizia Fortuny Flores, Kim Flores for short and shes only 14.
The singer was only two when her parents noticed she could mimic TV and radio commercials. They found out that the young Kim could sing. When she was seven, Kim joined a singing contest in school, she lost and the pain made her cry so hard, she still remembers.
"But Im over it now. I told myself I will just do better the next time around," she says. Instead of losing hope, she went on to join more contests and emerged a winner. And by then, Kim has decided to pursue a career in singing.
Kim admits she never had any training in classical singing but she can sing like a seasoned soprano just by listening to CDs. Aside from Lani Misalucha, other singers she idolizes include internationally-renowned soprano Charlotte Church, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. In fact, the first song she learned and sang during an amateur contest was Mariahs My All.
Kims singing talent was honed by attending various workshops. She studied vocal and performing courses at the Center for Pop Music in Las Piñas. She also attended Susana Pichays Music Studio and ABS-CBN Talent Center where she learned acting and musical theater. Kim also took up Voice Lessons Under Kitchie Molina and Modern Jazz Workshop under Douglas Nierrass Power Dance.
In 2003, Kim was named Best Soprano by the St. Franciscan Choir.
"Im very happy with whats happening to my career right now. But I promised my parents my priority will always be my studies. Im lucky to have a very supportive family. I know they will always be there for me and I can always count on them because family is forever," Kim says.
Kim has guested in Erik Santos mall tours and has performed with K and the Boxers and Ai Ai de la Alas at the Araneta Coliseum. She has also been part of the Joys of Healing album under Star Records. Kims song in the album is titled Only God.
"That is a very touching song. It talks about God being our Healer, our Inspiration and the only One we could turn to for our problems and that He is our hope.
Kim is working on her debut album under Ivory Records with Edith Gallardo as producer. She has already recorded the song I Love You too, a composition by Edith Gallardo and Nino Regalado. Kim is expected to record a total of 12 to 13 songs for the album.
Kim says the album will showcase her versatility as a song artist. "It will be a mix of pop songs and ballads I know music lovers would enjoy listening to."
So watch out for this young soprano named Kim Flores who says she would like to be as successful as Lani Misalucha and Regine Velasquez while retaining her individuality.
"I will always be Kim. And my music will be different, because it will come straight from my heart," she says.
