With all the important projects, in both the big and small screen, coming her way, Bea Alonzo is definitely ABS-CBNs next important star.
Early this year, 17-year-old Bea shares stellar billing with Piolo Pascual in Star Cinemas Valentine offering Dreamboy, a modern love story conceptualized by Enrico Santos, screenplay by Katski Flores and directed by Manong Gilbert Perez.
The movie is about Beas character Sid, an ordinary girl who was given three extraordinary chances to live an adventure of a lifetime. "The movie is a love story teaches its viewers to dream again," Bea adds. "As an actress, doing Dreamboy is a dream come true."
When asked what sets Dreamboy apart from other romantic flicks, the young actress ensures, "Moviegoers will enjoy our movie because it is something new from the concept to Manongs treatment of the movie to my team-up with Piolo." For her part, Bea shares that the movie required more of her because the director required her to do new things for the said project. "That is another thing why this movie will be memorable for me," she adds. In the movie, Bea was asked to jump from a pole for the first time. "I was very nervous. In the scene, I was supposed to look okay. In fact, I didnt know if I should cry or laugh in fright."
Manong Gilbert also considers it a dream come true to have both Bea and Piolo in one interesting romantic movie. "I have always believed in the Piolo-Bea tandem," he states. Manong was also quoted saying, "When Piolo guested on It Might Be You (Beas recent drama series) and he had a scene with Bea, I saw that they had chemistry, starting with their eyes."
Piolo, asked about Manong Gilberts testimonial, confirms, "Sa mata kasi ni Bea, you can not help but be attracted because you can see passion in her eyes and that she loves what shes doing."
Because of that, Piolo even said that "Bea has so much more to offer this industry (showbiz)."
In the movie, Piolo plays three different characters: The simple and ordinary Jaime, the rich and responsible Philip and the carefree and unpretentious Eboy. " Even if I am just three characters, viewers can see how Bea also adapts to my different characters. Doon pa lang makikita mo kung gaano siya kagaling na artista," Piolo even recounts an instance when, after doing a scene with Bea, he got so amazed of her leading ladys depth as an actress that it prompted him to ask himself, "How could a 17-year-old (Bea) deliver such an acting?"
On her third movie, Bea is thankful that she was given the chance to fulfill her dream of having Piolo, ABS-CBNs Star Magics banner male artist, as her leading man. "When we started shooting, I was nervous but he (Piolo) made sure that I will be comfortable" Bea recounts. "He is easy to work with. Even if he is a big star, hindi siya mayabang."
Bea was quick to answer, "I do not set qualifications," when asked about her real-life dreamboy. "My dreamboy is someone I will love the rest of my life- the one destined for me." Bea also begged to compare her two dreamboys, Piolo and John Lloyd, her loveteam, saying that it is unfair. "They are different from each other."
Asked about her decision to leave, even for a while, her loveteam with John Lloyd, she says, "Alam naman namin na darating tong ganitong pagkakataon e," the young actress even said that she is happy that John Lloyd will soon shoot a movie with Aga Muhlach and Claudine Baretto. "I am thankful and happy that ABS-CBN is giving us chances to grow as actors."
It can be remembered that Bea first caught the publics attention when she played the nerdy girl turned beautiful and confident lady Katrina Argos in ABS-CBNs teleserye Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay with grandslam actress Lorna Tolentino. Aside from being one of local televisions most loved drama series, the show also paved way for the birth of the John Lloyd-Bea loveteam. The team-up instantly gathered a huge following that it made young superstars out of the two actors.
But what people do not know is the story behind what seems to be Beas overnight success. "When I was included in Star Circle Batch 10, things started slow for me," she recalls. "There was even a time when I started asking myself , How come my contemporaries have their own shows na?" She even recalled an instance when she thought of quitting showbiz that early. "It was not easy."
After more or less three years from the time she was launched in Star Circle Batch 10, she says that she is happy she waited for her time to come. Aside from Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay, Bea and John Lloyd also topbilled teleserye It Might Be You and were featured in two blockbuster flicks My First Romance and Now That I Have You.
Because of her endearing charm and clean image, Bea is also one of the countrys most sought-after young product endorsers. "I am happy that various companies trust me to become their image models," she gratefully expresses.
Asked about her forthcoming projects, Bea says she is excited about her inclusion in the upcoming Joel Lamangan teleserye in ABS-CBN Vietnam Rose but was quick to say, "I wasnt briefed yet about my character. Basta, ang alam ko po kasama si John Lloyd at si Ms. Maricel Soriano at director naming si Direk Joel."
Though she considers acting as her forte, Bea, who also sings very well, also hopes to have her own recording career. "Even then I really wanted to sing," she reveals. "I hope I will also realize this dream."
Bea acknowledges the immense support that her fans is giving her and promises to "continue reinventing myself from the roles I will play to the things that I will do para hindi naman sila (fans) magsawa. She closed the interview by saying, "Expect only a better Bea in the future."
Indeed, this 17-year-old actress success is a proof that local showbiz rewards those people who truly love it. As Bea puts it, "I am not here because of money, fame. I am here because I love to act and I want to be a very good actress."
