The many sides of Pops

For two decades, Pops Fernandez reigned as the undisputed Concert Queen. But her performances in the two GMA 7 primetime shows – All Together Now and the recently-concluded Twin Hearts – prove she is more than a Concert Queen.

Leading the cast of her first ever soap opera, Twin Hearts, Pops played Adel, a mother of two daughters whose lives were separated by time and misfortunes. Adel is a kind-hearted person who once lost her eyesight due to an accident but was later replaced by one of her daughter’s eyes.

Adel is also a very trusting person who has been constantly hiding from a mysterious enemy. Pops further shared that Adel’s character easily gets weak when it comes to love but it evolves later to become strong and independent.

"Twin Hearts was my first soap opera. At first I had a hard time because of the long hours of taping but after a while I got used to it. There was even a time when almost all the scenes in one whole taping day required me to cry! Lahat yata ng luha nailabas ko na!," she shares, adding, "My role as Adel was very challenging and fulfilling."

Pops is busy doing All Together Now featuring Christopher de Leon, Edgar Mortiz and Johnny Delgado. Pops is delighted at the chance of working again with the trio because she remembers having started with them in the business.

Portraying the funny yet strict entrepreneur Rina Raymundo in the sitcom, Pops revealed she manages the Gandang R.R. beauty parlor where she is often caught in between the tiff of her two pretty but riotous staff. She is a caring and understanding neighbor who doesn’t have any interest for love.

Asked about her similarities with the character she plays, Pops says she managed to easily internalize the character of Adel because they are both loving moms, kind-hearted, very trusting and has developed to be a strong, independent person.
