She has hosted countless hair and make-up competitions in her capacity as Hair Asia events organizer. Yet in the recently concluded Salon Spectacular, an otherwise calm and collected Evelyn Alvaran-Cruz got goose bumps and shed tears when an equally emotional Daniel Cepillo was named winner of the acclaimed competition. A native of Bauan, Batangas and a suki competitor of Hair Asia events, Cepillo won the title of Overall Champion and its grand prize, a trip to Milan, Italy where the Hair World Olympics will be held this October.
Cepillos entry in the Kolours Premium Colouring Cream sponsored Ladies Evening Hair and Make-up category was what clinched him the crown.
Alvaran-Cruz, who also spent 2003 publishing a mens hair catalogue and mounting educational hair care seminars in key provinces, wasted no time in kicking off another busy year with the 14th National Open Championship for Hairstyling & Make-up. Slated this March 8 in two halls of the World Trade Center in Roxas Blvd., Manila, the 14th National Open Championship will be highlighted by four competitive categories: Ladies Creative Haircutting & Blow-dry, Mens Creative Haircutting and Blow-dry, Commercial Make-up and Bridal Make-up. Live hairstyling demonstrations are also as much part of this annual day-long event, as is a Trade Fair where well-known hair and make-up companies exhibit the newest products and services at discounted rates.
Alvaran-Cruz is particularly excited about the 14th staging of the National Open Championship, as the forthcoming event includes an exclusive launch of a professional line of grooming products from the best-selling brand HBC. She will also honor eight celebrity stylists in this special occasion. And as a fitting finale, veteran hair and make-up maven James Cooper will floor audiences with an ambitious, over-the-top presentation, which Alvaran-Cruz say is the first of its kind.
Cash and other awards will be presented to deserving stylists in each of the four categories. This years Overall Champion will join Salon Spectacular winner Daniel Cepillo in Milan, Italy for the Hairworld Olympics in October 2004.
Competitors who sign up early will receive free make-up sets and styling products from participating sponsors. For inquiries on the 14th National Open Championship for Hairstyling & Make-up, visit Hair Asia at 35 Judge Jimenez St. Kamuning, Quezon City. Or call tel. no. 415-7988/926-94890.
