Sandwich bites in PULP double issue

-
Local indie favorite Sandwich has all the ingredients of a surefire hit: a sexy frontman with an attitude; veteran musicians, including a former member of one of the biggest local bands in Pinoy music history; and fast, driving music for ruling the world. PULP staff writer Luis Katigbak talks to the band about their independently-produced sophomore album, Thanks To The Moon’s Gravitational Pull and how vocalist Marc Abaya almost took his pants off – literally – for PULP.

With drummer and all-around main man Raimund Marasigan now playing with Sandwich, curious music fans want to know: where have the rest of the Eraserheads gone? Vocalist Ely Buendia has since changed his name to Jesus Ventura and founded the Mongols; bassist Buddy Zabala does guitar duties with Raimund for Squid 9 and plays for Cambio and Twisted Halo as well. Meanwhile, lead guitarist Marcus Adoro has formed his own project, KamonKamon, in which he is joined by some of the most demented musicians, artists and filmmakers in the scene today. We have a lot more on them in these exclusive interviews with the local Fab Four – as well as those with whom they now share their unique genius.

Meanwhile, several foreign acts were either in town and/or in touch. Siobhan Pettit, Ireland’s latest export, recently swung by Manila to promote Long Ago Tomorrow, her stunning tribute album to the legendary Burt Bacharach; Croatian pianist Maksim and American folk rock star Alice Peacock also held their showcases here some weeks back; while Freddy Cricien of Madball, one of New York’s finest hardcore metal acts, had an interesting exchange via e-mail with PULP senior writer Joey Dizon.
