January 26, 2004 | 12:00am
Mike Hanopol has been known in the music and entertainment circle for the last 40 years with his Pinoy rock music and OPM compositions. He never veered away from his jeproks image until last Jan. 19, when he went on stage for the first time with his five-man band to render a 90-minute acoustic concert at Bodega City, featuring his original hit songs and compositions.
It was a successful night, kudos to Mike, who gave a brilliant performance. No doubt, his acoustic music will create a following from the young and the mature crowd because of its unique Pinoy attributes and musical appeal.
"For the first time, Mike Hanopol goes acoustic," proclaimed the giant streamer at the facade of Bodega City.
Although the event did not have pompous announcements over the airwaves and on TV, Mike Hanopol stood out with his superb performance before his appreciative Bodega City crowd. There were 15 original numbers in his repertoire, which include Buhay Musikero, Kayabangan, Upos na Lang, Baong Malalim, Awiting Pilipino, Sa Aking Pag-uwi (new composition), No Touch, Mr. Kenkoy, Araw, Inday, Bayan Ni Juan, Himig Natin, Laki sa Layaw.
The group brilliantly rendered two instrumental numbersLawiswis Kawayan and Hanopology.
With Mike that eventful night were four distinct session artists Lito Hanopol on keyboards, Perp de Castro on strings (guitar and banduria), Franz on bass guitar and Boyet on drums.
It was a great night, and indeed worth watching. Catch Mike Hanopol tomorrow at Bodega City. Other performers are ADZ Space and Lovely Jets band.
