Moonstar 88 graces PULP August issue

-
They took the country by storm with Sa Langit, Torete and Sulat, veritable anthems of the teenage lovelorn from Aparri to Jolo. But the members of Alpha Records’ alternapop band Moonstar 88 appear calm and unhurried.

Don’t look now but they have been around in the local scene far longer than many other bands their age. Still, underneath their cool exterior are hardnosed romantics who believe in what is written in the stars. A case of natural talent, unnatural persistence and natural luck? Writer Pearlsha Abubakar believes so.

Meanwhile, some guys from New Zealand are making new and interesting sounds in the hardcore rock mould, so even though they call themselves Blindspott, it’s going to be hard to miss them. Get a chance to win a CD of EMI Records’ new bid to heavy rock stardom by checking out the pages.

Over here, some guys just can’t stop making fun of themselves. Parokya ni Edgar is at it yet again with their sixth album Bigotilyo. Writer Luis Katigbak got a taste of the band’s far-out humor with a hilarious interview.

His anthemic love song, Kanlungan, has been made even more famous by a TV ad, and many other changes are happening in his glorious, more than 20-year-old career. But Noel Cabangon remains the humble craftsman of powerful melodies and evocative justice.

Also, get to know some musicians and their colorful fashion sense in the Funky Styley feature.

Grab your copy of PULP at half-price for every P150 worth of purchase at all Odyssey Records outlets.
