Bobby’s Urinetown and Jericho’s 555

DIRECT LINE - Boy Abunda -
Bobby Garcia announces auditions for his latest project, Urinetown on July 19, Saturday.

Bobby, who heads Atlantis Productions is bringing Broadway’s "it" musical to Manila later this year. Urinetown was the winner of three Tony Awards last year including Best Book and Best Music and has been hailed by critics as one of the most clever and amusing musicals to hit the Great White Way for quite some time. It continues to be one of Broadway’s hottest tickets.

Praised by critics for reinvigorating the very notion of what a Broadway musical could be, Urinetown is one of the most distinctive, intelligent and jubilant theatrical experiences to hit New York City in recent memory.

Urinetown will be directed by Bobby Garcia, with choreography by Andy Alviz, musical direction by ManMan Angsico and lighting design by Gerry Fernandez.

Auditions for the first international production of Urinetown will be on Saturday, July 19 at the G/F Oppen Building, 349 Sen. Gil Puyat Ave., Makati City from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (sign up begins at 10:30 a.m.). Participants are advised to prepare one musical theater song with piano sheet or minus one and a recent photograph to be attached to the application forms.

Jericho for 555
One of the most sought-after young actors in showtown has just signed up with 555 Tuna as its newest endorser. Dramatic star Jericho Rosales headlines the latest TV commercial for the top-selling 555 Tuna brand which was launched on A.S.A.P. Mania. Jericho says he had a blast shooting the commercial, where he also got the chance to sing the jingle, a Gen-X version of the Maria Cafra rock classic, Problema na Naman.

Jericho, who is also an avid athlete, is the perfect pitchman for 555 Tuna. He epitomizes youthful exuberance, a gimik-filled yet wholesome lifestyle which is active, healthy and brimming with zest and energy.

Jericho also busies himself with sports activities like surfing. A self-confessed beach dude, Jericho usually brings cans of 555 Tuna every time he hies off to La Union for his regular rest and recreation.

"I really love seafood," reveals Jericho who is also a good cook. "I love eating fish, especially tuna. And the good thing about 555 Tuna is that it has nine different flavors. So you won’t get tired of it." Jericho’s favorites are adobo and mechado. What is he raring to try? Bicol Express like a true-blue Bicolano.

"I can also do a lot with 555 Tuna," Jericho says. "I can experiment and try different recipes. Like I can put it on top of pasta. Or add capers, chili and other spices."

Jericho firmly believes in every product he chooses to endorse. "I’ve always loved Century Tuna," Jericho asserts. "And 555 Tuna is also manufactured by the country’s leading tuna manufacturer. So you are guaranteed value for your money. It is also really delicious. I’m very careful about canned goods but with 555 Tuna I am assured that it’s of the highest quality. It’s made from all-natural ingredients, fresh tuna and no preservatives whatsoever."
Three hot parties
Monster Radio RX 93.1 ushered in the second half of 2003 by painting Eastwood City red with three major events. The first bash, School’s Cool, the RX Back-to-School Party, happened in Blue Onion in Eastwood City, Libis on the weekend before school started. People gathered at the Blue Onion donned in mock-schoolgirl and schoolboy attire. A girl with the best schoolgirl outfit brought home a brand new cell phone courtesy of Sun Cellular. Lots of other games were played and prizes given away that night. Everybody grooved to the music of DJ Razor Ray and Sir Scratch.

The second event was The Porsche AXExperience! promo launch. It was a wet and wild night — literally and figuratively – as Axe and RX 93.1 held a one-of-a-kind wet skin event that left partygoers happily drenched to the skin. Hosted by RX Morning Rush guest jock Brad Turvey and Charissa Litton, the event culminated in a club-wear fashion show with eye-popping models parading on top of the biggest outdoor bar this side of town. Armed with water guns and surrounded by mist machines, Eastwood City Walkers had the time of their life getting soaked with water. Music generated by DJ Steve Mills pumped up the night. But it was also the anticipation of winning a new Porsche Boxster from Axe that kept the crowd’s party spirits high.

On Independence Saturday, RX 93.1 held another first – The RX Concert Series at The Mallswhich treated shoppers at SM Megamall to a rare musical spectacle, the combined acts of South Border and Kyla. Mallers jampacked the Atrium area and the railings on every floor of the Megamall to hear the music of the two hit makers.

Finally, after two straight nights of partying, RX ended the weekend with a party at Blue Onion to celebrate Sun Cellular’s Sun Stroke: The Ultimate Mobile Mania promo.

Three hot parties, three hot nights at Eastwood City, Libis. That would be a dream come true for any party maniac – and only Monster Radio could make it happen. But RX isn’t done just yet. Other fun activities and events are scheduled in the next two weeks. RX Onstage On Campus is already on tour.
