Stylish moments in Hollywood movies

If you ask me, one of the most memorable – and stylish – scenes in a local movie is the hospital scene in Jeffrey Jeturian’s directorial debut, Sana Pag-ibig Na, showing Nida Blanca as the widow cuddling the newly-born baby of her husband’s mistress (Angel Aquino), gently giving Angel baby-care tips.

There are many more but I reserve them for a later listing. Meanwhile, here are some of "The 100 Stylish Moments" in Hollywood movies, culled from a recent issue of the US magazine Movieline:

• James Stewart grabs and kisses Kim Novak on the shore of Monterey Bay as waves crash behind them in Vertigo.

• Audrey Hepburn eats a pastry in front of the window of Tiffany’s in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

• Antonio Banderas cuts off Catherie Zeta-Jones’ dress with a sword in The Mask of Zorro.

• Nicole Kidman descends from a swing as she sings Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend above a sea of men in Moulin Rouge.

• Robert De Niro shadow-boxes in slow motion during the opening of Raging Bull.

• Russell Crowe shows Jennifer Connelly the stars in A Beautiful Mind.

• The waves crash on Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr as they writhe on the sand in From Here to Eternity.

• A mirrored bathroom door closes slowly to reveal that Tom Hanks has indeed shot Daniel Craig in the head in Road to Perdition.

• Dustin Hoffman drives across a Bay Area bridge in his red convertible as Simon and Gurfinkel play on the soundtrack in The Graduate.

Brad Pitt struts up to Geena Davis for the first time in his worn jeans and cowboy hat in Thelma & Louise.

• Julia Roberts makes out with Richard Gere as she sits atop a piano in Pretty Woman.

• Mena Suvari opens up the jacket of her cheerleader outfit and rose petals come flying out in American Beauty.

• Maggie Cheung passes Tony Leung on a staircase in a gorgeous cheongsam dress as she goes to pick up noodles in In The Mood for Love.

• Olivia Newton-John, in a black spandex cat suit, takes a drag of her cigarette, then puts it out with one of her high heels in Grease.

• John Travolta walks down the street while the Bee Gees’ Stayin’ Alive plays on the soundtrack in Saturday Night Live.

• Zhang Ziyi dives off a bridge in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

• Brad Pitt watches statues come to life in a New Orleans cemetery as he sees the world for the first time through vampire eyes in Interview with the Vampire.

• Madonna throws money at a crowd of poor Argentinians in Evita.

• Johnny Depp walks through an airport with blond hair, aviator shades, an all-white suit and a suitcase full of cocaine in Blow.

• Kevin Spacey loses his limp and transforms into Keyser Soze as he walks down the street in The Usual Suspects.

• Brandon Lee rises from the grave in The Crow.

• Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter hold hands as they watch the skyscrapers outside, explode and collapse in Fight Club.

• Winona Ryder, in her party gown, dances in the snow created from Johnny Depp’s ice sculpting in Edward Scissorheads.

• A tux-wearing Tom Cruise leaves two fawning women behind to ascend the white-lit staircase at a Christmas party in Eyes Wide Shut.

• Reese Witherspoon rides up the train station escalator, then sees Ryan Phillippe waiting for her at the top in Cruel Intentions.

• Drew Barrymore enters Dougray Scott’s lavish ball in a dress with translucent blue wings in Ever After.

• Gwyneth Paltrow and Ethan Hawke dance into adulthood in Miss Havisham’s rundown mansion in Great Expectations.

• A blind Al Pacino dances the tango with Gabrielle Anwar in Scent of a Woman.

• Dustin Hoffman says to a half-clad Anne Bancroft, "Mrs. Robinson, you’re trying to seduce me, aren’t you?" in The Graduate.

• James Dean rubs a milk bottle on his face in Rebel Without a Cause.

• Leonardo DiCaprio, in a tuxedo, waits for Kate Winslet as she descends a staircase in Titanic.

• Marlon Brando sits behind his mahogany desk and says, "I’m gonna make him an offer he can’t refuse," in The Godfather.

• The last scene in Chinatown, where Jack Nicholson sees a dead Faye Dunaway slumped inside a car, and Joe Mantell tells him, "Forget it, Jake. It’s Chinatown."

• Jennifer Lopez strips down to her caramel-colored lingerie for George Clooney in Out of Sight.

• Michelle Pfeiffer – in her latex Catwoman outfit – straddles Batman, then licks his face in Batman Returns.

• Ursula Andress parades around in front of Sean Connery on a tropical beach in a belted bikini in Dr. No.

• Richard Gere drives up the California coast in his convertible in American Gigolo.

• Grace Kelly shows up at James Stewart’s apartment in an expensive evening dress with take-out lobster in Rear Window.

• Bo Derek runs on the beach in 10.

• Juliette Binoche swims through a light-blue pool in Blue.

• Judy Garland clicks her ruby red heels together in The Wizard of Oz.

• A sword slowly rises out of a lake in Excalibur.
