A night of big upsets

-
One of these days, I think I should bury my head in the sand – in shame? – for falling flat on my face with the "fearful" forecast I did on the 18th Star Awards for Movies (of the Philippine Movie Press Club, the equivalent of the Golden Globe Awards of the Hollywood foreign press) held Saturday night at the UP Theater.

But then, that was a "fearful" forecast, treading into uncertain (read: unpredictable) grounds.

The results of the Star Awards are very much welcome, with most everybody flashing the thumb-up sign. It was a night of big upsets and big surprises, with the "dark horses" beating those touted and predicted to be "sure" winners. For instance, who would have thought that Ricky Davao, starring in a "small" and "obscure" movie like Minsan, May Isang Puso (as a cruel father), would win over such llamado bets as Cesar Montano (Bagong Buwan)? Or that Ina Raymundo (for Tuhog, as a rape victim) would trounce such "bigwigs" as Amy Austria (Bagong Buwan) and Rosanna Roces (La Vida Rosa).

Anyway, here are some of the triumphant faces that night and the Honor Roll:

AMY AUSTRIA

BAGONG BUWAN

CESAR MONTANO

GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS OF THE HOLLYWOOD

HONOR ROLL

INA RAYMUNDO

LA VIDA ROSA

MAY ISANG PUSO
